Would you be incarcerated for ten years if you could earn £100,000 per year afterwards?

Half-swiped from somewhere else. Here are the conditions:

- For ten years you will be incarcerated in a modern, comfortable room which will act as a 'cell'. The size of your room is whatever size your main bedroom is at home. After ten years you will emerge to a guaranteed yearly salary of £100,000.
- You have access to a hot and cold shower, but your ambient room temperature can only be selected as either 12.5C or 35C.
- Clothes and laundry are done weekly for you.
- You have a choice of fast food or gourmet food. If you choose fast food, all room cleaning and pest control is done for you. If you choose gourmet, all cleaning must be done by you, as well as pest eradication. Alcohol is provided one evening only.
- You have day access to a music room with three instruments and a library of all records ever recorded within the decade of your choice.
- You have day access to a library of literature with all books and periodicals published within the decade of your choice.
- You have day access to a gym with all the latest cardio and strength equipment. No spotters.
- You have evening access to a home cinema system with all films ever made within the decade of your choice.
- Your room contains one television, black and white and only receives 4 channels.
- Your room contains one Pentium 4 computer and a 56k internet connection.
- You have access to the female of your choice, but for one hour and for only twenty times during your incarceration.
- After ten years you will have your guaranteed salary of £100,000, however, everyone you have ever known will have forgotten about you and you will never be able to contact them.

So, is it worth it? I'm tempted.

i noticed Oldboy was on film 4 aswell ;)

If it wasn't for the fact there's limited access and use from a PC, yeah - at the rate I'm going the only reason I'm out is for shopping. However not at this age, maybe 10 years ago.
Some of those things aren't a choice already.

Compared to current life:
- For ten years you will be incarcerated in a modern, comfortable room which will act as a 'cell'. The size of your room is whatever size your main bedroom is at home. - Office at work is slightly bigger than main bedroom at home, but otherwise pretty much check.
- After ten years you will emerge to a guaranteed yearly salary of £100,000. - doubt it
- You have access to a hot and cold shower, but your ambient room temperature can only be selected as either 12.5C or 35C. - since my GF insists on having the heating on max 24/7, check
- Clothes and laundry are done weekly for you. - sounds like an improvement
- You have a choice of fast food or gourmet food. If you choose fast food, all room cleaning and pest control is done for you. If you choose gourmet, all cleaning must be done by you, as well as pest eradication. Alcohol is provided one evening only. - sounds like an improvement
- You have day access to a music room with three instruments and a library of all records ever recorded within the decade of your choice. - sounds like an improvement

- You have day access to a gym with all the latest cardio and strength equipment. No spotters. - sounds like an improvement
- You have evening access to a home cinema system with all films ever made within the decade of your choice. - sounds about the same
- Your room contains one television, black and white and only receives 4 channels.irrelevant - I have music/books during the day, and home cinema at night
- Your room contains one Pentium 4 computer and a 56k internet connection. bit of a bummer, but see previous point
- You have access to the female of your choice, but for one hour and for only twenty times during your incarceration.sounds like an improvement ;)
- After ten years you will have your guaranteed salary of £100,000, however, everyone you have ever known will have forgotten about you and you will never be able to contact them.- sounds like an improvement

Dunno what this has to do with Oldboy. Can't remember anything about it now apart from the octopus scene.

cant remember he was locked in a room for years almost exactly the same lol :p also it was on last night or night before on film four

Why such bizarre requirements? "After ten years ... everyone you have ever known will have forgotten about you and you will never be able to contact them."

Will have to renegotiate the contract m8. Under the present trim terms offered - no. Do they come with a choice of lingerie?

Why can you not earn 100K from the moment you are incarcerated?

Why do you have to serve 10 years of servitude to start earning 100k after the day of your release?

I was considering until the last condition, lose all friends/family? Hell no.

I'm sure my loved ones would rally up £100k a year to keep me :)

I'll put it to them over xmas dinner.

Definitely not - so much to miss out on - you'd be better off working hard for those ten years and potentially achieving a slary far in excess of £100k - it can be done.

Of course not, I'd question the sanity of anyone who would consider that a good offer. Are they forgetting that 10 years of earning £0 a year makes quite a decent in the average earnings anyway? :p

Although you also don't have any outgoings during that time, and are actually provided with a relatively decent quality of life ;)

Surely this question would have a lot more meaning if the end result was a very high and attractive salary as opposed to £100k?

As it stands its not even a question worth reading past the first line?

If you're of an artistic persuasion it's more likely to appeal to you, I would have thought. I could quite easily make this work in theory [for ten years, I'm not sure though].

It's quite easy to say, Atticus, "work hard and you could easily earn in excess of £100,000" but earning a salary like that is also about ability and acumen, not just hard work. Or are you saying that ANY amount of hard work will get you that salary regardless of ability?

Very strange question. Life is precious, even on a day to day basis. Throwing away ten years for a wage that, in ten years time, will be worth even less than it is today anyway seems daft.

Besides, the ten years without a stable human relationship would be so detrimental to your mental state. Though, I'd question that mental state anyway, if you went into that situation by choice.

Edit - would there be other people to talk to?

Also, if you can choose any woman you want, this would surely be against their will, so you would be in effect be commiting 20 acts of rape if you go through with it.

: /

HEY HEY HEY HEY... hey... he said access to a woman 20 times for 1 hour.

You're the one who brought up rape.

That's your choice, a moral person would just have someone to talk to 20 times.

In which case it becomes a matter of numbers.

200k? 500k? 1m? 10m?

And whether you actually just get the money after the 10 years each year, or have to work your ass of in a terrible job for it.

If it was just get the money, there would be a tipping point where i'd do it probably, if not there'd be a few ammendmants to the T&Cs before i'd consider... such as:

- For ten years you will be incarcerated in a modern, comfortable room which will act as a 'cell'. The size of your room is whatever size your main bedroom is at home. After ten years you will emerge to a guaranteed yearly salary of £100,000. - More money or go home.
- You have access to a hot and cold shower, but your ambient room temperature can only be selected as either 12.5C or 35C. urg why random temperature control? what's wrong with a comfortable 18-22c?
- Clothes and laundry are done weekly for you.
- You have a choice of fast food or gourmet food. If you choose fast food, all room cleaning and pest control is done for you. If you choose gourmet, all cleaning must be done by you, as well as pest eradication. Alcohol is provided one evening only. Alcohol is fine, im curious how many pests i'll have to deal with? not a big deal breaker.
- You have day access to a music room with three instruments and a library of all records ever recorded within the decade of your choice.
- You have day access to a library of literature with all books and periodicals published within the decade of your choice.

- Your room contains one television, black and white and only receives 4 channels. Not the biggest problem, but is this in addition to the home cinema system? or is this tv the tv used by it?
- Your room contains one Pentium 4 computer and a 56k internet connection. the internet connection is the main boo hoo :O gotta keep yourself occupied.
- You have access to the female of your choice, but for one hour and for only twenty times during your incarceration. Giggity, acceptable enough if i'd be rich at the end of it i guess.
- After ten years you will have your guaranteed salary of £100,000, however, everyone you have ever known will have forgotten about you and you will never be able to contact them. why this?? take this out and it'd be more of a consideration.

Apart from your twenty hours of female company, no, not in person.

Remember that you have a 56k internet connection, which is ample for forums and chatrooms etc.
