Would you be incarcerated for ten years if you could earn £100,000 per year afterwards?

Why would you need normal employment prospects when you were:

A) A master musician
B) A highly successful self-published author
C) Rolling in it from the multitude of self-published indie games
D) <Insert your preference of expertise here>
E) Have £100k/year to fall back on?

Fair point, but it assumes I wouldn't have topped myself in the slammer. :p

10-years of missed experiences would smart a bit too. Not sure if I could hack giving up my 20s for it.

How is that possible are all your family and friends drugged to make them forget and how will you not be able to contact them, are they going to be locked up, murdered, moved to another planet... or are you going to be imprisoned again? No wait, I know you don't get the money, but what happens if they contact you first?

It's a hypothetical scenario.

Yes without a doubt

12.5c room, fast food and megan fox please

and I would actually do this with the 1 exception my dog ask me again in a couple years once shes gone and i would without a doubt, 10 years gone yes maybe but emerge at 39 to 100k a year mortgage free by 45 never having to work again and with plenty in the bank, hell you might even get to keep megan

Answering this myself, I'd probably go for yes. I'm not a sociable person by any means. Not going outside would take its toll but at least I could exercise properly. And you'd set yourself up for release.

- For ten years you will be incarcerated in a modern, comfortable room which will act as a 'cell'. The size of your room is whatever size your main bedroom is at home. After ten years you will emerge to a guaranteed yearly salary of £100,000. - my main bedroom isn't massive, but it's a decent size. No problem there.
- You have access to a hot and cold shower, but your ambient room temperature can only be selected as either 12.5C or 35C. I think you could get used to either. Or switch between the two to cheat periodically. But 12.5C... I don't think you'd even feel it after a while. Or put a jumper on.
- Clothes and laundry are done weekly for you.
- You have a choice of fast food or gourmet food. If you choose fast food, all room cleaning and pest control is done for you. If you choose gourmet, all cleaning must be done by you, as well as pest eradication. Alcohol is provided one evening only. Gourmet + cleaning. No contest.
- You have day access to a music room with three instruments and a library of all records ever recorded within the decade of your choice. I choose guitar, piano and oud. As for a decade, the 80s. For metal, it was the most inventive. Dark ambient was just starting to surface, and there are countless decent classical recordings.
- You have day access to a library of literature with all books and periodicals published within the decade of your choice. Hard to choose, but it would have to mirror the music so I could follow written music with the recordings. So the 80s again. Lots of good literature then too.
- You have day access to a gym with all the latest cardio and strength equipment. No spotters.
- You have evening access to a home cinema system with all films ever made within the decade of your choice. The 2000s. I want all my world cinema and horror. Bring it on. I wouldn't miss the 'classics' too much.
- Your room contains one television, black and white and only receives 4 channels. I don't watch TV, so no issue.
- Your room contains one Pentium 4 computer and a 56k internet connection. Again, no issue. I cut my teeth on the internet of the late 90s and early 2000s. Plenty of decent games and ways to communicate.
- You have access to the female of your choice, but for one hour and for only twenty times during your incarceration. This is a weird one. I think half the time I'd just end up talking to them rather than having sex.
- After ten years you will have your guaranteed salary of £100,000, however, everyone you have ever known will have forgotten about you and you will never be able to contact them. Sounds fine.

So at the end of ten years you come out of this place:
- totally ripped
- well versed in the literature, music and film of a certain era
- musically talented
- and with a ridiculously high standard in women

BUT, you are also:
- completely inadequately prepared to interact with other people, except to have sex with them
- unfamiliar with modern technology since you have spent the last 10 years jerking it to slowly loading jpeg porn instead of keeping up with the world
- without anyone who cares enough about you to help reintegrate you back into society.
- In very real danger of quickly losing your new 100k job due to the above.

So no, I wouldn't

Some of the best games ever made...so not that bad at all! Oh and surely Morrowind would be playable, that would take up 3 years on it's own!!

No, when i was 20probably.
Although i dont feel old, i am starting to feel that ive only got 10-20years to accomplish certain things.

Very tempting if you're a shallow materialistic soul-less human being!!
I really cannot understand people that put so much value on money and material objects  Are the relationships in your life so poor that materialism is a genuine alternative  If so then that really is heart-breaking :(

Exactly Crazy. Ten years of relationships, life, experiences, lost. For what, material gain. IM OUT.

(...does the 100k have to go through the books?...)

You say material gain. But a lot of life experiences cost a lot of money.

The good life for example is hugely expensive and thats growing and providing as much as you can for yourself, as land prices are so expensive. You need to be rich to go simple. Or traveling requires money etc.

As a child of the post war, capitalist, consumerist west I value material possessions just as much as the next man, but the moments that really stay with me are those which have often cost nothing. Emotional moments, connections made with people, being witness to certain family events, passing of loved ones, the birth of children. Money won't get you far with any of those.

If I was locked up for ten years, regardless of my state of comfort, I would surely miss events which I would regret for the rest of my years.

10 years of solitary confinement with 20 hours human interaction during that entire time?

Wouldn't do it 1 billion pounds a year as I'd be some kind of gibbering nutcase by the end.

WILSON!!!!

At what point in these rules does it say you can't earn money outside by not going in?

By not going in you don't automatically lose the ability to earn money, but by doing so you have made a choice. If you make the choice to go inside, and earn a financial reward, you sacrifice ten years for material gain.
