Hi,

Apologies if this has been asked before…I’m sure it has been in one shape or another.

Quite simple question really…my son has a new Xbox One and is currently playing on a Panasonic 37PX80B plasma (only 720p). He wants a new 1080p TV circa 40” and has a strict budget of £500.

I have narrowed it down to:

Samsung UE40F6320
Sony 42W653

Both can be had for £499 incl 5 year warranty.

Any opinions on which I should go for. Or are there any other better options…? Useage will be 95% gaming. The Sony 42W653 seems to get equal measures of love/hate.

In an ideal world would have liked to have gone down the plasma route but nothing fits within his price range (unless we buy second hand which I am not prepared to do).

Cheers,

CH

I recently bought a Samsung UE40F6320 for gaming on my Xbox One. Personally I can't fault it. I had a look at other Sony and Panasonic models around the same price range as well, but went for the Samsung.

Thanks for reply...do you happen to play FIFA14 on it? That is the game my son plays most and he is concerned about ghosting/trails.

Appreciate that this affects all LCD's to varying degrees.

Cheers,

Cheers Dean...will try those settings when I set up TV for my son on Xmas day - its a combined B/day and Xmas present.

I have an update for you :)

TV is all set up and working, havent had a massive amount of time to 'play' with it yet but thought I would give my initial thoughts.

Great looking unit, moving up from a Samsung 32" (about 6/7 years old) its clearly a decent step up for me.

Easy to set up, a few steps to it but the TV flies through them to be fair.

The one gripe I have with is the power cable, can be a pain in the backside - it was for me.

The TV has a power pack which stashes away nicely behind in its own little mounting bracket which is good, well thought out, although the power cable out of the power pack is only about 15" long, about half of that is concealed behind the TV too. Not a problem if you have a plug behind or near the TV but was a pain for me as I don't so had to screw an extension socket to the wall.

Just seems a bit stupid to be honest - surely power cables should be longer and then you at least have the option to cable tie them to hide them out of the way.

That's something for you to bare in mind so your son isnt caught out on xmas day :)

Going to put some HD content (PS4 games & blurays) through it later and see how it goes.

Had a quick look at the apps to and they seemed to respond pretty quickly, I may sign up to netflix soon, so its a nice bonus to have this in with the tv :)

Any questions just shout up!

I had the 32" sony recently which I'm happy with. It has higher input lag than the 42 but I can't notice it at all. FIFA is fine for blur as well so the 42 inch should be great.

I just got a KDL42w653 myself on Friday. Loving it so far.

One thing is though - even though everywhere that sells this TV, and even on the official Sony webpage for it says it comes with Motionflow 200hz, i can't find a setting anywhere on the TV to enable or see the difference with it turned on or off? Does the TV just do it automatically, that's why there's no setting for it?

According to some, the TV doesn't have the feature at all -

Saying that, i've watched a few BluRays on it and the picture and motion on panning shots seems fine to me :p

What would be the standard HZ setting then if that feature is not on, 100hz?
