ASUS’s upcoming Radeon R9 290X DirectCU II OC graphic cards has been leaked Sweclockers ahead of its launch scheduled for January 2014. The ASUS Radeon R9 290X DirectCU II OC ships with a factory overclock and custom PCB design which will leverage its performance over the reference boards and help improve the cooling capability of the graphic card.

ASUS Radeon R9 290X DirectCU II OC With 1050 MHz Clock

The ASUS Radeon R9 290X DirectCU II is an overclocked edition card hence it ships with a factory overclock out of box. From a technical perspective, we are looking at the default 2816 Stream processors, 176 Texture mapping units, 64 Render Backends and a 4 GB GDDR5 memory operating across a 512-bit interface. The clocks have been configured at 1050 MHz for the core and the memory runs at 1350 MHz (5.4 GHz effective) which is upped from its default state of 1000 MHz core and 1250 MHz (5.0 GHz effective) clock speeds.

I glued them to a reference card if you remember? But it saves any issues should I have to RMA...

Yeah lol, noticed it says concrete alloy chokes on this card as well, says no more buzzing. This could be an awesome card to be fair. I hope the bios is compatible, because those stock clocks 1050/1350 would be perfect for my card. Would be happy to run that clock 24/7.

DAT BACKPLATE

Many of these 290x customs are coming with a backplate. Hopefully other cards will follow by example. The backplate will help justify the price premium i will pay :D

This is my fav custom 290X so far. Quality components / PCB and the cooler / backplate look nice as well. If I hadn't already got a 290X I would def get one of these.

Shame amd don't use the chokes on reference cards. It's plain to see it can be done but amd just cheapens out

Surely its the board partners decision rather than AMD. Sapphire make all reference ones and tbh, if they went and put premium parts on reference designs, no one would buy the super premium cards like the matrix for just a small core boost. Either that or we would be charged super premium prices for all cards.

I think a back plate really finishes off a card nicely, and I would like to see this much more often. I'd choose the gold one. :)

I love a back plate but they do hold heat into the card. I would still rather have one than not though.

I thought they usually help to dissipate the residual heat, as it gets spread over a larger area from the hotspots?

I do know aftermarket-backplates usually are for visuals only, but I genuinely thought the manufacturer fitted ones are helpful as well.
