H4 bulbs and good LED sidelights

Thanks for the link, they look perfect for the bike. And a pretty good price too.

I've got 8 x LED Canbus compatible sidelight bulbs in my 4007 purchased from the Bay of 'E's, they are 'multi directional' ones and are a very good match for the HID's, apologies for the poor photo, shot of the sidelight bulb on it's own (actually looks bluer than it is in real life, its a very crisp and sharp white):-

I have a 2008 Fiesta ST, will I need canbus compatible ones?

Those cree ones look good, I had some which looked like those in an Astra I bought for a couple of months and they were really good and nicely white :)

Also I think maybe front facing LED's may be best for mine, my headlight clusters are as per:

No hotlinks, if you want to post a picture then please rehost it on your own webspace.. Thank you.

The only thing I've found about the directional SMD ones with multiple LED's (mine have 8) is that the light isn't focused forwards via any sort of lens, rather it is spread out around the entire area inside the headlamp lens assembly where it resides. This is good in the sense that it gives off light to the sides which assists in visibility from differing angles but the trade off is that single LED types which face exclusively forward and are directed through a small lens appear brighter to oncoming traffic.

Phil, I checked my headlamp yesterday and it does have quite a chunky sidelight bulb cover inside the headlamp. Maybe heat protection?

I think a high power (5W) directional CREE LED will work best in making it as noticeable as possible in rear view mirrors and oncoming traffic. I may try both types anyway though.

I'll try to remember to take some comparison photos.

I think I'm the only person who doesn't think LED sidelights (in older cars, where DRLs had yet to exist) look good as a general rule :o

I'm not a big fan of retrofitted DRLs on cars never designed for them but the sidelights are already there on most cars - I just want mine to be brighter and whiter :)

My string of bad luck continues. New pair arrived today. Installed one and it flickered and died within seconds. Put the other one in and it's OK for now. Sods law the seller will want the pair back and frankly I don't fancy trying to take them out - it's an utter pain in the rear end in the Mk4 Ibiza.

Anyway I do have a working pair at the moment - took a shot in daylight, and one a couple of minutes ago at dusk.

/edit - won't be long before it's dark, I'll take a shot then too.

Hi guys, bump/update, the HID's started to work for a while but are being a pain now, if they both turn on they've started sticking on main beam or only one side will come on now. Intermittent as hell, so bin time for them.

Any more new updates on good bulbs up to 25 quid for H4's? I have some Cree LED sidelights in now, 3w ones, very good and very bright white light around 6000k. I know I'm not gonna get the same look as HID's but not too fussed as long as they're not uber yellow and light up the road plus remain reliable/relatively long lasting.

Any good recommendations over the current ones in the thread (Osram, Philips, Ring) will be gratefully received and I'll order some tomorrow after some feedback from you guys in the know :)

Pretty much the same recommendations, with the only caveat being the Osram Nightbreaker Plus bulbs have recently been replaced with Osram Nightbreaker Unlimited. They are specified as brighter and whiter, but with the same estimated lifetime as the Nightbreaker Plus.

HID kits are generally tat and fail.

I had a HIDs4U kit that was supposed to be the best type you could get.

in reality it was no different to the ebay rubbish apart from the ballasts being a lot bigger.

I had nightbreakers and they went pop in a few months. certainly not something i expected given the price.

currently using Ring bulbs with osram LED side lights. perfect combination and have given me zero issues

Look at the height of the beam on those stupid side lights. They'll dazzle oncoming driver's

I made a thread on here a few years ago about nightbreaker lifespan, worth a search

I just bought some silverstars

The best LED sidelights you can get are the philips 4000k ones. I have lost count the amount of times I have looked for sidelights to match my H.I.D's which do not look blue and chavy.

As for candles you can not go wrong with RING 120+ bulbs. Have them in 2 of my cars.
