*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

Excuse my ignorance but had a quick skirt through and could not see the answer I was looking for.

Have amassed quite a few games (including free ones) on ps3, are they all still available for me to re-download once I plug in my ps4 I asked in local game and grainger cannot seem to get a straight answer?

Thanks in advance :)

Morning John :)

Oh buggerations, am not going to have much to choose from then. I understand the disc based games are not compatable but cannot see why the digital downloads (me freebies and purchased games) can not be available oooooo this could be a deal breaker its like saying bye bye to 100 plus games :(

If you want to play old gen games keep your ps3, ps4 will only play ps4 games

They would need to be coded again from scratch that's why. Ps4 uses completely different architecture. Ps3 had cell, ps4 is basically a pc

Thanks for that Sonny do you think they will ever bring out the ps4 equipped version of some games and if they did do you think they would still be free if you have already purchased them or gotten them as part of ps plus?
Sorry for all the questions just trying to get a complete picture :)

There will eventually be the Gaikai cloud streaming service which *should* allow PS3 games to be played on the PS4 but this is a while off. I have no idea if games you have already purchased will be free on it though.

They are working on gakai a streaming service for backwards compatibility but it won't be available for some time and unsure on if all games or just certain ones will be supported.

I highly doubt that most games would be given away for free but apparently the pinball game is. Others you are given the option to upgrade to the ps4 version for £10.

This is only a small handful of games offering that upgrade though.

Your better off keeping the ps3 tbh and getting a ps4.

The jump in visuals is amazing even pc players have been hugely impressed

Thanks for the info chaps much appreciated. My local danger games has them in stock so will probably go pick one up this morning. Good idea to keep the ps3 until this "gakai" rolls out though I don't like the clutter of too much stuff under my tv but at least I can have the best of both worlds for now. :)

Wow, NBA 2k14 is hard!... Or I'm just rubbish :D

It's not just a pick up and play Nba game, you can also manage your own team or play the career mode that entails you developing your own custom player. You start out as an amateur and having to impress at the Nba amateur showcase with the hope you get selected in the Nba draft. You then play out the season with games and training. It even follows a story line with you battling it out against an old rival with typical trash talk and slanderous tweets to one another, ha ha brilliant.

Good game to consider if you want a challenge and like basketball.

A PS3 game is a PS3 game, whether it's a disc or a download. It just isn't cost-effective to make stuff backwards compatible these days.

Just read on HUKD a way to get half price games on PS4 by making a US account sharing it with a mate going halves on the cost £18 each and getting the digital code.. Then making it primary on both consoles Is that allowed as well, that's a good idea.

It's very unlikely they'd be free but I imagine they'd try and port over the popular games if it's financially viable to do so. It's an expensive process however as they wouldn't have the grunt to emulate the PS3 environment on a PS4 so would need to have a team of developers to port each game.

Will have to wait and see how viable streaming is as I imagine it's not going to work well with fast paced games due to input lag.

If the streaming works well on the Vita I don't see why Gakai won't be a success.

Totally different environments though. One is via a local network with minimal latency and a lot of bandwidth available, the other is over the internet. Not to mention the fact that the compression used to stream games to the Vita is less noticeable on a small display than it would be on a TV, so they'll also have that to contend with.

A PS3 is still going to be the best way to experience PS3 games.

Of course, but Gaikai is the best option we have currently. Over time it will improve and be optimised. Internet speeds and bandwidth will increase as well.

I don't think it's allowed, but that is possible and probably against their terms of service.

I would maybe do it with a brother or close friend, but you have to be careful if a console dies on you that you de-activate it before getting another one.

Also I'm unsure about if you could both play online at the same time on the same game using that method, if that does work then yeah would be worth doing for cheap games but only with someone you trusted as they would have the password to the account, etc as well as access to the registered credit card, etc.
