Nexus 5 RMA

I finally got my Nexus and it is constantly rebooting, gutted!
I've managed to upgrade it to 4.4.2 but it still reboots. It even reboots while rebooting! The thing is clearly faulty so I want to RMA it. Problem is that I asked a friend to buy it for me in Germany so the warranty is on his Google account and I am unable to RMA it with mine.
So I am wondering, shouldn't it also be under warranty with LG directly? Anyone got experience with this?

Yes it is but apparently they're really really bad at dealing with it so you want to try and go through Google where at all possible, although I'm not sure if the warranty Google offers is worldwide I'd be very surprised if it wasn't.

Apparently "The warranties for Nexus devices purchased directly from Google Play are only valid in the country it's purchased in." which is a major pain in the ass.
What makes you say that LG is really bad at dealing with the warranty?

how much cheaper was the nexus 5 in Germany than in the UK?

coming up to the xmas break, be doubtful to get this sorted this side of 2013

reports on other forums are Lg are really slow and horrible to deal with

best of sending it back to Germany asap and get him to sort the RMA out

The price in Germany was 399 for the 32GB version (same as UK i reckon). Reason I had it purchased there is because I live in Belgium and can't buy it directly from Google which means a minimum of 50-100 euros more expensive, if I can even get my hands on one at all.

I don't really want to send it back to my friend as he is also really slow and horrible to deal with :P

That's not true with the nexus 7.

Someone on here bought his in america and when over here he managed to get google UK to replace it

Looks like they don't want to let me RMA it directly with LG.

I'll keep trying tho. Surely they have some obligation to take back faulty devices.

I RMA'd my faulty Nexus 5 on Monday (signal problem). A replacement shipped the same day and I took delivery of it the following morning. This is in the UK.

Go into the bootloader, as the phone is booting up, hold Volume Down.

See if it reboots in the bootloader after so long, if not its probably just a software issue. Which is can easily be reflashed with a bit of reading.

You think that they made a mistake while flashing the device in the factory? Since the problem is on stock android right out of the box. I didn't do anything to it yet.
I haven't noticed it rebooting while in bootloader but didn't test it for very long. Will test it more tonight.

Not that simple unfortunately. To RMA in Germany you need a German Visa and Address. But ye, looks like I have to ask my mate to return it for me.

I bought a Nexus 4 off someone, all I ended up having to do was have the person I purchased it from transfer the warranty to my Google account.

I then just returned it as normal?

The warranty is country specific. This means that a device bought in Germany can only be returned in Germany. To RMA a device you have to have a valid German credit card and address. It's the same as if buying a new one. Only difference is that they will not charge your card if you mail in the faulty unit within 5 days or something.

I presume you bought yours off someone who also lived in the UK.

Yup, thought Google may have just agreed the EU is the EU in this case but.

Finally got my Nexus back from the outsourced LG repair service in Germany. They reflashed the ROM, 'tested' it and sent it back. I turned it on and within 5 seconds it started to reboot again. Freaking annoying!! I can't believe they actually sent me the defective phone back claiming they fixed it!
Now I have to send it back in again and hope they will replace/fix it this time. This whole mess is costing me an additional 50 euros just mailing it back and forth!
Should have never bought the damn phone!
