A friend of mine recently moved to Norway and has bought a PS4. He's been wondering what PSN account he should get for PS+. A Norge one or an English one.

After a relative having trouble with a Portuguese account and not being able to purchase things from a UK debit card I've said that a English account would probably be easier. He's not got a Norge bank card yet so would probably have to rely on PSN cards. He's probably not going to be living in Norway for an extensive amount of his life either.

What benefits for each PSN account would there be?

As far as I'm concerned a UK account makes far more sense as he's English, still has ties to the UK and has a UK bank account. Also would benefit from Amazon digital store and CDkeys.

Definitely UK. As you are his friend in the UK, you can always supply him with PSN £ card codes if he needs to buy anything.

Yeah, I'm stressing that he should go for a UK account but speaking to him, again, today he wants to go for a norwegian account. I think the issue is that he is worried that Sony will crack down on having accounts in the wrong countries...I've told him it's silly and I've had a US and Japanese account since launch of the PS3 and nothing has changed...

Just seems like there may be a lot of hassle in the future if and when he comes back to the UK.

As far as I know, Sony have no migration procedure for people to change countries. So if he gets a Norwegian account, he'll be locked into the Norwegian store (do they even have one?) and have to pay in local currency or € which will be a hassle if he ever does come back. He would have to create a new PSN ID in all probability.

That's exactly why I think it's silly getting a Norwegian account. Oh well, you can't help some people! :p

Got to the butt of the issue though and it is because he thinks they'll block it off or it's not going to work...which will never be the case.

If you've tried your best to bring him on side. At least later on down the line you can turn around and say "I told you so"

Shame it's going to be a case of when and not if...wonder what he'll do when coming back to the UK...

The friend in question does get very worried over nothing, he called up the HMRC when buying a grey import camera from China and asked whether that was ok for example.

Where is he going to buy his games from as that would probably decide it for me as unfortunately the PS4 is still region locked for DLC? I guess if hes only over there for a finite amount of time it just makes more sense to keep to a UK account even if it might be a little bit of pain sourcing games (probably have to buy them from UK sites)

EDIT: Just saw how paranoid your mate is, Sony is pretty damn lax regards to mismatched PSN accounts and country of residence. Considering they dont have an easy way to migrate like MS, then I think what you have advised your mate is logically or at least arguably if the worse did happen...

ps3ud0
