I asked myself the same questions in the vid. They are all answered there too. Basically if it was easy and quick to make then I would. It would also have depended on the water quality.
I would have modified that slightly by having the outlet from the kettle above the inlet to the condenser, so that any steam that condenses in the black flexy tube would not run back into the kettle.

I have changed it slightly since, well spotted. I didn't use a violence reducing solid in the kettle so they higher hose counteracted this. Since then though I have halved the hose length should I ever decide to use it again. It is currently making whisky!
