Jaguar XF 3.0d R-Sport

I bought a 12 plate 3.0DS PL in lunar grey a couple of months ago because of J1nxy :)

Still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it, it really is a nice environment to be in and a brilliant drive. The only think I missed out on was rear camera which whilst would have been nice (and I would def get it if it's available) isn't the end of the world missing it.

Apparently you can get the dealer to retro fit it for about £300 now, so it will be no different to the factory fit item.

Why is the rear camera such a must? Is the rear visibility a lot worse than with other similar sized cars?

Its just awful, you can't see the boot lid at all, but it also adds the front sensors as part of the pack, so that makes it a must have.

I take it that's only on the facelift cars?

As I've asked about getting it done on mine and they said it's impossible :(

I'm guessing so, as I enquired about a MY12 DS portfolio without a camera listed so I wanted them to check as I'm not interested in one without but they said they could fit one as part of the deal. They said the loom etc was all there on all the cars, they just needed to fit it and do a software upgrade.

I thought the price was too good to be true as it was up for £27k with 19k on the clock, but then found out its one of those MY12 cars that Jinxy was talking about which didn't have a heated screen etc.

It'd still not have the front sensors which if anything are more important than the camera.

Aye I thought it was very strange after looking at their stock (initially saw it on the Jaguar approved used site) as they had other MY12 DS portfolios with similar mileage for £32k, a very big difference so aroused suspicion of the spec.

Interesting. I asked the same thing and the dealer was adamant they couldn't add it and it was a factory fit option only. For £300 I'd have one fitted tomorrow if they'd agree to do it.

How did these cars ever not have front sensors as standard?! Bizarre.
Parking nose in first is an "interesting" experience until you get used to how big it is, especially when you're used to having front sensors. :)

I think it's such a shame that on the rear parking sensors they look like they're from the mid 2000s and aren't smooth and integrated in the bumper, thankfully the fronts are, as that's the nicest bit of the XF.

The salesman could have been talking BS of course to get me to come see the car as this was all discussed over the phone. You never know with salesmen.

Worth investigating though, I'll have a rummage and see if I can get an answer. If there's anyone with links to JLR or a dealership it'd be handy if they could find out if they are now allowed to retrofit the parking camera on a MY12 XF.

I recently got a MY2011 XF 3.0 DS PL, a pre-facelift model with the following options: adaptive dynamics, aerodynamic pack, sports pack, B&W hifi and some others I cannot remember now. I wish it had the reversing camera and front sensors as it is a big car to park.

When it went in for a service I had a facelift 2.2D. Obviously, the engine was not as smooth and much more noticeable when driving. Also, the 8 speed made a bit too many gear changes for my liking.

The courtesy car did have a reversing camera and it worked very well.

So far the only decent information I have found on retrofitting the reversing camera is here:

Thanks for the views guys.

I am quite set on this car, I really like it, inside and out. I'm not going to wait around some 2 years for the next model to come out.

What would be the reasons to try and get a PL or Portfolio instead of the R-Sport? They seem to be quite a bit extra for very little more. Surely most Sport trim cars are just that, the standard ones, with better looking exteriors?

Thanks,

Mal

It's more to get the 3.0 DS in PL form as it has the better engine, same body kit, active suspension and a whole load of other upgrades which are either optional or not available on the R Sport. The R Sport is a luxury spec car, without leather and with the body kit.

I was looking at a 3.0 R Sport new, with the options I wanted I was looking at £40k new.

So yes it does indeed make more sense to get 2nd hand, spend £10k less and get a better car :)

One quick question, in the 3.0 D S, what it the main difference between the PL and Portfolio?
