Is £500 a year FC with 8 years Protected NCB, no accidents, one claim (flood damage write off) and 3 points a good quote for an A3 2.0 TDI? I am 27...

Every year my insurance renews and it goes UP yet all of my friends it goes down, I live in one of the lowest crime areas in the UK and the car lives in a double garage, yet my insurance quotes are consistently higher than people who live on grotty council estates in Bolton for example, I really don't understand why... is it because when I was younger I just paid it without complaint and they think I am soft?

Tldr: I think I pay too much insurance, and every year I gain a years NCB but the renewal goes UP...

Try shopping around, insurance company's try it on with renewals in the hope that people will pay for less hassle.

An example would be my OH last year we had a renewal price from Admiral for £200 more than the previous year, so we shopped around and found that Elephant (same company, just different trading name) were £400 cheaper than the previous year. So a saving of £600 on the renewal price. Rang Admiral who then matched the price.

Do you shop around? If you just keep paying the renewals why wouldn't they charge you more...
How much is the car worth?
Tried a quote with a different postcode to check if yours is seen as dodgy for some reason?

I pay £480 for an MX5 2010 agreed worth of about 12,000 at the time and I was 28 when it was renewed. (not that that means anything as we all know its a lottery...)

I accepted it as it is with Direct Line who were brilliant when I had to claim. I would rather pay more for good service, but someone I know is 25 and is paying £240 apparently for a 330ci... which rather takes the urine...

The three points is TS20 which is crossing double whites, I was overtaking and someone cut me up from the side, I had to move into the oncoming lane (no traffic on it) to avoid him hitting me (left hand driven foreigner) on a dual overtake road, Police parked up the road saw it all but let German guy off as they said they "cant be bothered with the paperwork for foreign cars" ;/
I was 23 at the time.

You need to at least get other quotes and go to direct line and tell them your going elsewhere as you can get it £100 cheaper, you will be surprised how much money can be dropped from your policy

I used to work there and I know the ratings for points was altered in 2012 which upped the cost for things like a CU80 and made things like DR10 uninsurable. Have no idea whether TS20 was changed but that could have caused an increase, as it would have when you got it and the claim too.

Direct Line are not the cheapest either.

To answer your question, no £500 is not hugely expensive when you have 3 points and a write-off claim.

This. Price sounds about right tbh.

You say you live in a nice area, but have you checked your post code rating? I would say my area is quite nice, but according to that it's rated F (even has the * to say motorbikes need to be in a stored garage  )

probabally because you have 3 points on your licence, and it might also be your area

im 35, 7 years protected , no accidents in 5 years , no points, and im paying just under £500 on a 2L, I also did a quote for something like a small fiesta, same price

Your claim and points will be inflating it a bit but try fiddling with the options, try a few different job titles for instance, and sometimes parking it in the road overnight is cheaper than parking it on the drive etc. Just try a few different options (but never lie of course).

I was with Direct Line for years.. I always just renewd without looking.

Then when I was looking for a new car I did various quotes and it turned out DL were charging me considerably more to insure an 18 year old 1.3 Proton than what I could get for an 07 2.2 Civic.

I'd been insured with Direct Line on that Proton since I drove it brand new off the garage forecourt !

Shop around dood.

For years I payed my due on insurance, £1500, £1500, £1500, £1000, £700.

Now I'm FC for £400 on a modified DC2 in a city, I'm not exuberant because the *******s have had enough off me already!

What's more worrying is the fact you bought a brand new Proton!!
