Hi there,

I'm stuck with a dilemma - I've been looking at a GTX 660 for my current new build, but am unsure as to which manufacturer version to get - Asus or Gigabyte. The Gigabyte version seems to be very slightly cheaper, and has better cooling, but the Asus has a higher default clock speed; does anyone have any idea which of these to go for? Also, I'm guessing this will work anyway, but I have a Corsair CX600M power supply - this is enough for the card with some headroom right - my system specs are in my sig.

Thanks,

Out of the two, I'd definitely go for the Gigabyte card. Your psu is plenty. Have you thought about any other cards within your price range?

I looked at the GTX650Ti Boost, of which a Gigabyte version is £10 cheaper, so I assumed it was better to get the GTX660 obviously - my budget is around the £140 mark, preferably Nvidia (don't like AMD :P ) - got any other suggestions

It's the fact that I've had some bad experiences with AMD, and some of the features coming out with Nvidia GF Experience (Shadowplay and such) intrigue me more than what AMD etc offers.

That sounds like an idea, does anyone have an idea about the warranty for that - don't want to buy a used one to find it breaking on me a few weeks later. Is it a year or something like that?

if you're a fanboy then you don't mind paying more for a worse performing product.

Get the Gigabyte 660 then, it's your money.

Easy now...

If you can pick one up used then it would be a good card, I bought an EVGA Superclocked one for £80 the other day, and as mentioned some 670's go for £120 - £140 used which is also a great price.

If you are buying new, it would make more sense to grab something like this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-226-MS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1982

I paid a touch under £160 for a GTX660 when it was on offer not long after release. At the time it was a great buy, but considering that the price has only dropped by £10 or so and things have moved on, I couldn't recommend buying one over a 270X now.

Its not a *bad* purchase but its certainly not the best one.

The 270X is essentially an HD7870 clocked at around 1100MHz.

I'm talking brand new cards from e-merchants. he was obviusly looking for a new card.

Once you start talking 2nd hand, you have many more options.

So, if I could find a GTX670 for that £120-£140 mark (used of course), would you recommend it over a 7870/R9 270X? Used could be an option for me, just worried slightly about warranty and such.

Okay, I'll be on the lookout, seen a couple that are in my eye already, but best not to rush :)

Erm..... the 660 performs right in between the 270 and the 270X and it is cheaper than both so I'm not quite sure where your coming from.

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI Radeon R9 270X Gaming Edition OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £149.99
1 x Sapphire Radeon R9 270 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £143.99
1 x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 WindForce 2X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £139.99
Total : £433.97 (includes shipping : FREE).

To the opening poster there is nothing inherently wrong with the 660 but the R7 270X is probably a better bet within this price range.

This one would be my choice.

Oh, bru's right y'know. :p

I thought they were still at the £150 mark.

In that case a 660 isn't a terrible purchase at all, but for the extra £10 I'd have the 270X.

Still, look out for 670's. :) I upgraded from a 660 to a 670 and the difference is superb. Mine has clocked brilliantly and almost squares up to 680 lightnings! :D

Okay, spotted a couple around - the stock coolers (at least I think they are stock coolers) look pretty pathetic on cards such as the MSI and EVGA cards, should I avoid them? Also, the Gigabyte Windforce 3 (3 fans) looks overkill, however I see the Asus one looks pretty decent - should I just stick to the Asus?

Just another note, does anyone by any chance know the length of the manufacturers warranty for Asus GPU's? (The 4GB GTX670) GTX670-DC2-4GD5

Gigabyte has excellent customer service.

I had the Asus 670 and it was a beautiful card. There is a noticeable difference between the 660 and 670 when playing games imho.

Either Gigabyte or Asus are fine.

The 660 is a lot better than a 650ti although saying that my brother has the latter and he is happy.

Depends on what res you game at too.

If you can stretch to it and want a 660 then I would get this

EVGA GeForce GTX 660 FTW ACX 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £149
