There's a voice that keeps on calling me.
Hey Folks,

Just after a few suggestions for a decent cylinder vac. I currently have a Miele with a Turbo brush, not a bad vac, but after 5 years, the extendable hose is buggered and the turbo brush has packed up, so much for the uber kraut reliability. It looks like its going to be pricey to get it repaired, so im thinking its time to move one, and chuck this thing on ebay unless someone can give me a few pointers on diagnosing the faults on mine.

If I do go for a new one, its needs to be reasonable light and have some sort of turbo brush function, I have a very annoying carpet upstairs that seems to attract fluff that is a bugger to remove, I dont think i want to spend £300 like i did with the Miele, it just doesnt seem good value for a Vac imo.

So can anyone help!

Only a few screws holding the Turbobrush, you find like I did, the spindle totally caked up with crud, & stopping it from revolving.

Can't remember which turbobrush it was, but the drive belt had snapped, cost about £4 for new belt to get it working again.

New hose isn't likely to be over £50.

Hi,

The henry eh, thats a decent shout.

Nightglow, the belts are fine and its spinning freely, i wonder voltage it needs to operate, maybe its not getting juice from the vac, I know the handle with the variable speed/power buttons is working fine

It's a 12volt feed I think, some hada cable runs in the hose, others were a electric hose, you damage hose, you loose power to turbobrush, long time since I had my Miele :(, but most vacuums with a turbobrush operates same way

Well i've done a continuity test on the hose from the grip to the brush and thats fine, I have done a check from the vac to the grip yet though. That will be a job for xmas day:p

Miele Turbo brush is air driven (this as someone said gets clogged , 2 min job to declog) ,the Electro brush is the one with the cable :)

Was in a similar position. Miele broke and replaced with a Henry. Can't really tell the difference and there are better things I can spend the additonal £150 on than a vacuum cleaner tbh.

Henry can also have a turb brust for £20 if you want.

Not really, the vacuum head sits at the end of a hose, no vibration from the motor means no deep pickup. Henry's are for people with wooden floors.

Don't pay full price for Miele, as new models for S7210 start at £160 on ebay.
I've battered the hell out of mine for a year and I'm quite impressed I haven't been able to break it.

Yours should be a simple fix anyway.

just get a henry or a harry which is for pet owners. seriously the best vacuum I have owned. better than the cylinder types that need to be emptied or required you to wash the hepa filters after two uses

Henry's are pretty immense tbf.

I've used the same one for 8 years without a bag to suck up rubble and brick dust and anything else you can imagine (including liquids) and although it certainly looks 8 years old nothing would come close.

I don't have one, but once my Vax breaks am getting a Henry. There is a very good reason why workmen use them. They suck up everything and last forever.

Not really sure why you are recommending an upright tbh
There is no logical reason for anyone to want a cylinder vacuum in a house, uprights are far more practical and efficient, you are not wasting air wattage on pointless pipe friction for one thing. I've used a lot of different vacuums, I'm not going to recommend something I think is naff.

Applying the criteria relevant to a builder to a domestic situation doesn't make sense?

Logical or not, we prefer a cylinder, so thats what im after.

We only have carpets in the house, im going to try and fix the Miele 1st, but otherwise i shall start browsing for something else in the sales.

T'is fixed! I took the whole hose apart, and there was one broken cable in the pistol grip, and now the turbo brush is working well.

My extension hose is playing up now though, its got too much play so slides to close when pressure is applied. Problem is, as its a electric turbo brush model, the genuine extension is a staggering £150, which is only £50 less than a new model :(

Im making do with gaffertape to hold it in position, its not elegant, but it saves me a wodge of cash and keeps the vac running for a while longer.

OK, I've got a dog, some carpet and some tiled and laminate flooring in my house. The Mrs wants an upright. What do people recommend?

I have particularly stick carpets that attract all manner of fluff and bits, and with the turbo attachment on the Miele, its clears the lot. I think with pet hair you do need a turbo brush. I prefer cylinders, its simply easier to store and works better on stairs.
