I expect this is a tabloid hate machine story and unless we have better evidence than the newspapers I'll take it with a pinch of salt.
The problem people have isn't that it's "Muslims - look what they're doing to our green and pleasant land" - well for some I suppose it is.
It's implied favourtism, up until very recently I was vegetarian, if I worked on a checkout would I expect to sell meat products and handle meat products? Yes. If I couldn't cope with that I wouldn't apply for the job in the first place.
Going by the Christian medical point - I would be very angry about that as well, it's not their place to decide on my health treatments based on their beliefs.
When you are dealing with others you put your beliefs to one side unless you are in a position where you can refuse.
I hate blood sports with a passion but some years ago when selling optics, I had to sell binoculars to someone who said they were for hunting, I still had to do it, that was my job. If I made a fuss or asked someone else to take over I would have been reprimanded.
Not so long ago I was asked to work with some images taken on a hunting trip in Africa, I politely declined to work with those images. I have my own business now, I make those rules, but when you work for someone else you and everyone else with the same job has to do the same thing, no exceptions.
I do worry what the agenda of these papers are though, why stir up hatred?
I remember a couple of years ago at Christmas some family members were 'outraged' by a newspaper story that the Royal Mail weren't selling nativity stamps anymore in case it offended the minority.
They ranted and raged and I said it was rubbish and we had a good bit of a Christmas row.
It wasn't until after they left (on amicable terms!) that I thought to check Royal Mails website...sure enough on the homepage - buy nativity stamps, loads of designs.
That's why I'll take this article with a pinch of salt until I have better evidence to the contrary, but why do papers print these things to upset people?
