M&S have dropped a clanger

Not gonna lie, have not read through the whole thread so hopefully not repeating something someone else has said. I have a few points...

I think this is silly, surely if this women is following the Islamic religion so closely then does that also mean she cannot speak to and thus serve men either?

Also does this mean a Vegan can refuse to serve people meat, dairy products or anything that involves meat or dairy products?

Also this lady seems to think its fine to get a wage from a company who makes lots of money on selling these items.

Surely if you are against selling these items then you would not work for this company? If I were a Vegan/Veggie I would not work in an slauter house.

Once this ball starts rolling Chritians wont work Sundays. Jews wont work Saturdays and Muslims won't work Friday's this then starts to feel like discrimination against people without religion.

It's ok, I'll just go to my mate round the corner. Mr Abdullah has no issues with me buying alcohol and pork products. Often pop in to get some Peperami on the way home from the pub, sometimes a cheeky bottle of merlot too

To be fair athiests are already discriminated against - because they're going to BURN IN HELL. Apparently...

:D

wow

I think that's why they all seem so angry in the middle east. I would be pretty ****ed off if i was called to prayer at some horrid early hour in the morning on a Sunday and was then told I couldnt have a bacon sandwich.

No but then you would be awake at that hour anyway getting drunk or throwing up on the street/your house..

I think it is admirable of M&S and others to do this. I didn't know this policy existed. I am pretty sure thousands of muslims are employed and if this was an issue for them, this "problem" would have come to light before.

As Sainsbury's spokesman said, Muslims are allowed to touch these products however I know some (including myself) would feel uneasy touching those products. Alcohol isles are a problem as if one broke down, it would ruin your clothes and touch your skin.

I have no problem with this as long as those who refuse to handle such goods are sent to the back of the queue when M&S are recruiting, seeing as they're the least suitable candidates for the job. I'm sure there are plenty of non-Muslims & Muslims who don't have such phobias who will fulfil the roles.

If you don't want to handle alcohol, don't apply to work in an off license or any other place that sells it.

No wonder everyone hates Muslims.

Just because you hate them doesn't mean everyone else does (Majority may do, but it is only because of the MEDIA who don't like us.. when was the last time religion got mentioned when a non-muslim committed a crime? Whereas when a muslim does it, his religion gets mentioned and more than likely the words "extremism" too..)

Maybe you can sleep better at night pretending everyone else is like you. Finally you are acting like this is the first muslim who has been hired but refused to serve alcohol

Alcohol isles are a problem as if one broke down, it would ruin your clothes and touch your skin.

Oh, the humanity! Would your sky fairy disown you, or would you just clean up the mess (as if you would with, say, milk) and carry on with your day?

What if I was an atheist and I worked at M&S but said I couldn't serve religious people because of my beliefs? Or that I couldn't sell any Christmas items because it is a religious holiday e.t.c

Do you think that should be allowed?

Atheists have no such beliefs so you would be raving mad.

Whereas when a muslim does it, his religion gets mentioned and more than likely the words "extremism" too..

You know why? Because like any victim of a bullying media you asked for it.

Muslims simply don't fit into any culture that is not their own, that's why in every single country they emigrate to they stand out, you are constantly visible in every community.
People notice the funny dress code, the weird oppresive way women are treated, the cartoon death threats, the anti gay rants, the constant prayer ritual, the weird thing where you bury women up to their necks and stone them, the wife beating, the neighbourhood vigilante groups, the beating of children in faith schools, the sharia law demands, the poppy burning, the pretence that some areas are muslim only, the sponging hate preachers who never leave, the abuse of western women's dress, the soldiers funeral protests, the appearance of different food, the abhorrent child marriage tradition, the bacon and alcohol thing, the death threats to anyone who writes anything negative about your religion, the psychotic white converts, the psychotic ginger converts, the psychotic black converts, the desecration of war graves, the fake weddings to get a passport, the picketing of the military funeral procession, constantly playing the race card, the hijab burka demands and the wearing of such in schools and hospitals, putting children into burkas, the fact that halal meat is now the only thing on the shelf, the death threats to anyone who stands up to you, the riots over the ME conflict, the way liberals constantly suck up to you, the bomb plots, the rape gangs, the weird thing about beheading people, the constant building of ugly mosques, the basic impression that the Quran is just full of hate towards non muslims.

It just goes on and on and on, and you wonder why people get sick of hearing about this one group all the flipping time? Do you have any idea of what your community looks like to casual outsiders? It doesn't matter that some of these things only happen in other muslim countries, you all have the same "weird stone age muslims" tag attached to you by the media, if I listed all the weird stuff that Middle Eastern muslims do this post would take all night.

Pick any other religion.
Judaism, Hindu, Buddhism, Christianity, seventh day adventists, Mormans, Jedi, happy clappy evangelicals, wicka, pagan, satanists, scientologists.
When was the last time you heard anything negative about any of those, from any western country? They all have funny beliefs too, why don't they get picked on when you do all the time, every single week? Jebus if the media can't print any dirt on bat crazy scientologists once a week then they really must be too busy shovelling all the muslim stories out the door.

None of those religions make a fuss over anything, they fit in and become part of the culture. If I had to find a member of one of those religions I couldn't, but I could find ten muslims without even trying.

If you want to be an aggressive separatist religion then fine, just expect to be picked on, but please stop whining about being picked on when it's actually YOU that pokes the media bully all the time :(

Exactly how is that a problem? Accidentally being splashed with alcohol isn't a sin, nor is handling plastic.

Fair enough for M&S attempting to accommodate religious views of their staff but frankly this is an overreaction from a muslim staff member if scanning bacon and alcohol is really a problem for them. God help them at this time of year when you have pork wrapped in pork! Not to mention all of the false idol stuff going through the tills!

BBC said:
An unnamed customer told the newspaper they had tried to buy a bottle of champagne from an M&S store in London, but the member of staff "was very apologetic but said she could not serve me" and asked the customer to use another till.
Such a non-story.

Are you serious?

The apology:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-25488259

It will continue to be an issue as long as we kowtow to religious groups.

"The retailer said it usually tried to assign "suitable roles" to staff who could not handle certain items because of their religious beliefs."

Just sack them problem solved but if they do carry on then ask for a sick note from their god ;)
