**TODAY ONLY! 23/12/2013** EVGA GeForce GTX 780Ti Superclock ACX 3GB & VTX3D Radeon R9 290 X-Edition

The VTX cards are meant to have a high unlock rate. It might be worth giving it a go.

And it's all because TUL Corporation, VTX3D's master company, didn't get enough Hawaii Pro GPUs on time, so it had to use the better Hawaii XT chips instead, but with the 290 BIOS.

Your not really unlocking the card just flashing the correct bios to it.

Yeah i read that but im not going to risk warranty on the success of a bios flash if something goes wrong. Each to their own and all, but for 5% extra performance im not interested. The thing i was interested in was the £60 saving it offered me over the MSI 290 Po Ocuk cards i had just bought. Guess im going to have to lose out on that sadly.

profiteering or not happy???

Profiteering. 7990 was the best gpu ive ever owned. Quiet and powerful but i can't overlook a £180+ profit.

Fair enough. Are these not the same as the MSI anyway so getting these saves £60 anyway ?

True but the MSI offers one extra years warranty. Urgh decisions decisions lol.

Ignore manufacturers warranty. Sale of goods act covers you up to 5 years with the retailer anyway.

I would save the £60. Actually I would wait for custom cards as they are too loud for me... :)

You have to think, in 2 years time are you still going to be using this card? Probably not. Even if you sell it on, its not going to be worth much of anything in 2 years time anyhow (look at GTX580 second hand pricing for example!)

Ok guys ive asked 5UB to switch me back to the 290X VTX cards. I don't have to flash them and i guess i can always try it further down the line if and when i upgrade my psu. Gibbo disconcerted me earlier but i can't ignore a £60 saving, especially as i found out ocuk have run out of silver tickets.

Thanks 5UB. Its all Gibbos fault to be fair. I was being silly and thinking well what's the point in getting them if i don't flash (thats what she said) but as Moog pointed out, just don't flash and still get the £60 saving, just give up a years warranty which i can live with.
