Hey y'all.

I was running my system with a GTX 650 TI Boost 2gb and it set on fire, so I had to send it back for RMA.

RMA situation is sticky, after 4-6 weeks I *may* get a new card, so no point waiting around.

Originally I payed £90 for it as a refurb which was a pretty sweet deal from what I know.

So I am wanting to replace it with something equal or slightly better (only had it for <2months!) and spending money is around ~£150.

Ideally i'd like to stick with NVidia since I love their Shadowplay & Nvidia Experience.

My system at the moment:

AMD Phenom II X4 Black Edition 955 3.2 GHz
ATI Radeon HD 3850 (256 MB) - I dug this out of the bin the day my 650 died!
Asus M5A97 AM3+ AMD 970 DDR3 ATX
Corsair DDR3 8GB RAM CMX8GX3M2A1600C11

I don't really know much about GPUs to be fair, so I am hoping someone could suggest a few recommendations based on my price range of ~£150. I don't have access to MM so it'll have to be a new purchase.

This is one I am maybe leaning towards, is it a good price for what you get etc?

gigabyte geforce gtx 660 windforce 2x 2048mb gddr5 pci-express graphics card @ £139.99 inc vat

I am using this GPU chart to try and get an idea how the power vs price of a GPU.

Thanks!

Your gpu catching on fire is a very serious thing, I hope it hasn't damaged your motherboard in any way. I trust you have a good PSU?

For £150 new you won't get better than a 270X or a 7870 XT/Tahiti LE (if you can find it).
From nvidia there's nothing better than a GTX 660 for £150, though it's not as good as a 270X

As ever you can find better for your money 2nd hand.

My MB is fine from it, the fire was on the outer part of the board luckily - Using a 500w OCZ PSU, quite new as well!

Looking at those benchmarks it's looking quite tempting to buy a 270x, especially for ~£14 more..

660 for £150? Are you mad? You can get a 670/680 for under £200 second hand

660 I can get for £136 brand new delivered.

I've checked fleabay and there are only a handful of used 670/680 which are not ending for x days, i'm a bit impatient to be honest.

660 or stretch to a secondhand gtx 670. Ive got a 650 ti 2gb card in a second rig here. Not bad but 670's go pretty cheap now. Much better card than the 760 that came later. Slower card tbh.

I ran with a single 660 for a while before switching to 2 of them in sli. Depending on the resolution you run at you probably won't be able to max every setting in every game, but if your willing to drop things like AA and SSAO then you should be running most modern titles well. There also incredible if you stick two in SLI. I'm yet to find anything I can't max running at 1920*1200.

Given how long the 660s have been out and the fact that I paid £140 for my first one over a year ago I do struggle to recommend them at this price point. Second hand GTX670s are going for £120 or less on the members market and would be quite a big upgrade over a 660.
