A simply installed Chrome browser extension allows users to circumvent the UK government's highly publicised and expensive porn filtering initiative. The extension requires no technical knowledge to install and activate and is free, its name is 'Go Away Cameron', or GAC for short.

The browser extension was written by Singaporean computer science graduate @nubela, the creator's home country has a similar porn censoring system called 'MDA' and a similar solution from @nubela. The author wrote that "I built this Chrome extension to bypass UK's censorship. It is the easiest way to access blocked sites. Simply install the GAC Chrome extension, login, and the blocked sites are immediately bypassed."

I wonder if this also circumnavigates blocks to torrent sites etc. It is totally laughable that all this money got dumped into this plan, only for it to be sharted out by a simple browser add-on less than a week later.

Type in Pirate Bay on Google. Despite it supposedly being blocked, it isn't. So many proxies that it just cannot be blocked.

The movie/music/etc/ industry need to change their attitudes to get people to not pirate things. If they made movies, music, etc. more affordable, people wouldn't pirate them!

The music industry is beginning to change with cheap streaming plans (e.g. Google Play Music for £9.99 allows you to stream brand new music as much as you want). The movie industry need to do something similar.

That's the answer.

just tried it and I cant even install it, just comes up with an error and ask me to try again. Other extensions install fine though.

Its odd that you have to be logged in to use it as well, no need for that surely unless the creator intends on using your information.

Just change your dns too abroad.

I don't want to go abroad just to change my DNS

On a more serious note, the Google and OpenDNS servers are slower than Virgin Media's own DNS servers. VM seem to have some epic speed caching going on that suits their network perfectly.

Yup, if there was a service that let me download and play tv/film when I wanted to for a fixed monthly cost (£10-£15 PM) then I would pay it. A lot of people would.

I sold £30 worth of Know How vouchers on ebay recently, a streaming/rental site that charges for film viewings. I got £10 on the open market, so the real "worth" of these vouchers is 1/3rd of the sticker price. Good times!

I must visit abroad, sounds liberal.

What happens if you want to view these adult sites? do you have to speak to 'Steven' in India and say you want to see the porn? or is it auto-mated?

That cameron guy ain't giving up. He's trying to force 'free' porn sites like theporndude, pornhub,... to only allow UK visitors by showing their ID now or something. He sure hates porn :p

Claims to be protecting the children, when the biggest conspiracy relating to child abuse in the UK is within the corridors of power. Then one of the ministers behind the porn block, Patrick Rock, is arrested in 2014 relating to child pornography.

Thought it was opt out anyway ...?

Its supposed to "protect the children" when as anyone can tell you the truth is most children know how to work around these blocks better than many adults.

Makes me laugh when one of my relatives asks me to enable filters on my router when their family visit - as her kids have learnt from other kids at school how to work around any trivial filtering.
