Because it is a forum to express views. If people get all upset because somebody has disagreed then they need to realise that people have different, and valid, viewpoints.

There is disagreeing, which indeed is valid, often interesting, engaging and as you say the point of a forum, and what makes them a worthwhile place.

Then there's being an ass for the sake of it.

Do I watch the Queen? Do I heck, like. Sod her and her cronies.
Why not just say you don't like her?

But do not criticise those who don't.
Hypocritical much?

Another Christmas related thread.

As for queen speech. No. Never have and never will.
See? He's posted his opinion without being offensive about it. It's that easy.

As a republican and someone who would like to see our monarchy consigned to history, I have no problem ridiculing the Queen or her family. In fact I think it's a crucial part of fighting for change. The first step in challenging any authority and emancipating yourself from it, is the ability to laugh at it.

Now you can throw around the term 'morons' to me and others all you like, but maybe your time would be better spent searching for your sense of humour.
Interesting that you'd see this as a sense of humour failure. That would indicate that there was something funny in it in the first place.

There is plenty of worthwhile comedy ridiculing the Royal Family, there certainly isn't any of it in this thread. Nor these forums as a rule, people generally just enter the monarchy related threads to point out either how useful they are or how much a waste of space they are.

The first step in challenging any authority and emancipating yourself from it is to laugh at it (as an aside for a different topic probably, but lets face it the monarchy don't have any authority any more)? Your rather over the top emotive language aside, do you genuinely think that? You wouldn't go for something simpler such as say questioning it, before starting to ridicule it?

I find any institution based on succession by birth-right an affront to the social concept of equality & a national embarrassment. She is not my Queen, just an old women who many in the UK recognise in some position of superiority based on historical oppression.

Cultural Stockholm syndrome if anything.

We should just agree to disagree and move on. We clearly have very different views on this and I see little point in taking it any further.

No I don't watch, her speech writer says nothing of interest to me and it's not like we are getting her actual views on anything.

If they let the Duke have free run on a speech then yes I would tune in.

It would be nice to try and understand your point of view but if you don't feel like you can debate it that's fine.

I stated my point of view quite clearly platypus. There's really nothing more to add. You then profoundly disagreed with me. Some topics I enjoy debating. Religion for example. You can really get stuck into a topic like that. Debating the monarchy though is a dead end for me. You're either for them or you are not. Not much to discuss really.
