New Gigabyte GTX 780 Ghz coil whine

Ok just tried the Heaven benchmark and the GPU cut out once and went to a black screen.

A drop to 5 fps? Would it be safe to say that there is something funky with this card?

I had a R290X that produced coil whine, although that was the least of its problems. The replacement Gigabyte 780 Ghz I got has coil whine at very high frame rates but least it works unlike the R290X. Coil whine can affect anything which has coils which means nearly anything in a computer can cause it although it is more prone to graphics cards and PSUs.

The problem with this is the coil whine seems to be linked with games freezing, screen blacking out with a sound loop and returning back to normal within about 6 seconds.
 
Ok just ran Planetside 2 with GPU Z log running.

The screen cut out with a sound loop and returned around the 9.54am mark. You can see what happens to the GPU.

Power drops, core clock drops everything on the card basically slows down for some reason.

This is happening with 2 reliable power supplies.

Any idea what is causing this guys?

Should I DSR this turd? Or RMA it?

Well you could run in to an issue with an RMA since I believe you stated that it only seems to be a problem with one of your PSU's, which means it may well be an issue related to your PSU meaning when they test it the issue may not happen. Thus you may have to use DSR instead but if it is your PSU there is no guarantee you won't run in to further issues with a different high end card.

I wouldn't be returning it for coil whine now as I solved that by putting an OCz PSU in my main system, it's the screen blacking out + freezing with a sound loop on 2 different systems using different PSU's that I would RMA it for.

My CPU is overclocked, but never had an issue with the 7950.
 
record sound and video it then rma it . you shouldnt have to stand that with a brand new card.

i know i wouldnt.
 
Yeh gonna do that mate. I did a full 100% driver clean and re install, done pretty much everything and the screen is still cutting out. It loses total signal to the monitor for about 4 seconds then returns. Not what I expected for £400.

lol. Tried enabling Shadowplay and my screen went black, rebooted my PC and the 780 had been disabled.

Jesus christ Nvida are terribad, just gonna DSR this thing and get a 290, what a colossal waste of time. Probably gonna cost me a bit in postage but the sooner this thing is out of my sight the better.
 
I noticed that the boost on this thing is supposed to be 1072mhz core clock but when gaming it goes to 1110.5mhz could that be too much? I haven't touched it, this is what it came like.

Yes mate its the GHZ edition max temp i have seen is 70/72c :) does sound like your card is not working like is should:(

Hi mate,

Can you check GPUZ is yours the A1 or B1 revision? I heard that the GHz editions are supposed to be based on the newer B1 but my GPUZ is reporting an old A1.

GPUZ reports mine as A1 also

Seems GPUZ reports B1 cards as A1 anyway according to a quick google search.
