Music your parents liked when you were young

My Dad was and still is a massive Buddy Holly fan and from an early age he has also been my favourite artist.
My Dad played in bands and the likes of Jackie Trent was always in my house and he also played bass for Johnny Kidd & The Pirates amongst others.
I just grew up with music so I've never needed to go back because it's always been with me and I was 12 when I earned my first money on stage in a band with my Dad.

Dad:

Steely Dan
Neil Young
The Beatles
The Sex Pistols
Frank Zappa

Mum:

Billy Joel
70s funk
Queen
Meatloaf

Never liked the Beatles, still can't listen to them now, but I love Steely Dan and Zappa etc

Ha!

My dads like of the bee gee's (had the hair cut and everything) allways on the car radio.

My mother had far better taste, she was big on Journey, and so thus was i/

Abba Gold and Sgt Peppers over and over. That was basically it.

I listen to all sorts nowadays, including both the Beatles and abba.

Mum loved the Beatles, Carpenters, Scot Walker, T-Rex
Dad had a dodgy mix of country and Western, Dolly parton Jim Reeves, Willy Nelson?

I went through a alternative phase as a teenager and appreciated the Beatles :P

I like The Beatles and find myself appreciating classical music more all the time. My parents didn't listen to much music.

I was wondering the other day what my son will think of the music we listen to when he gets older.

My 79 year old dad has just informed me that part of his Christmas present was the first five Ramones albums.
He used to tell me to turn them down back in the 70s.

Haha awesome taste for a dad. I can't say that about my dad, but I am a really good influence on my kids, and I got my daughter the Ramones debut last xmas.... and the Dickies Punk Singles album, and she loves them :)

My parents tastes were all over the shop, Dad especially, Beatles, Kinks, Equals, Neil Diamond, Bee Gees. I loved listening to all that stuff and stole all the albums to listen to in my room.

As i got older i really came into my own in the late 70s/early 80s with the like of The Police, Gary Numan, New Model Army etc.

I wasn't expecting NMA to be in your list! I saw NMA in about 1983 and there was 1 man dancing! I really enjoyed that gig, as the band were extremely different then.

my mum liked anything from the 60's and used to listen to jennifer warnes and kate bush in the 80's

my dad was a little more varied and enjoyed rush, led zeppelin, the byrds, tangerine dream, leonard cohen, van morrison, genesis and others i have forgotten.

I'm Dimple's age (OK, not quite...), so most people here have parents my age. But I grew up with mostly classical, including a fair amount of opera, plus a sprinkling of musicals. I always liked the instrument classical, grew to like opera, and still don't like musicals.

My dad was a big music buff.
His main likes were the Moody Blues and Pink Floyd.
He also listened to a lot of 60's stuff that I don't know the name of.
There's been a record player (stereogram in the 70's/80's!) of some sort in the house as long as I can remember.

Talking Heads, and Fleetwood Mac. I still enjoy listening to both. I think taking heads definitely defined my music choices, opting for sound and melody over lyric, hence why I don't like most rap and slow pop stuff.
