Hi merry xmas everybody, I have been running a 4.5 ghz overclock on my 2700k on this cooler 24/7 for over 2 years, The PC has spent most of its on during the day.
Today i have installed BF4 for me sons xmas gift, One of my cores hits 80 degrees, even on medium settings, I have triple screens and two 680"s on sli.

Im not sure if its the game or that being demanding is pushing the CPU and cooler. When i installed it I would never expect one core to go over 75 degrees,I recently cleaned the fans, and today i have updated the graphics drivers. The voltage for the 4.5ghz overclock is 1.300 as has always been for last 2 years.

Wondering if its just a BF4 problem, or i should look to a new cooler, if so what Air version would do the job? as i have only had basic coolers before this one?

After 2 years it probably just wants some new thermal compound on it.

I didnt know, Does it degrade? obv since i have not noticed any trouble until today i have taken everything for granted, even turned of the monitoring software like coretemp until today. So thermal paste should be replaced every so often ?

Its only because i set a warning and to shut down in the BIOS at 80 degrees as a backup, that i know i have an issue

Well, just to report that changing the paste and taking the fans apart for good clean has not made any difference. at 4.5 ghz and 1.300 core voltage one of the cores still hits 80 degrees. where originally when i first set the overclock would be about 72 max on the hottest.
still crashes b4 as i set the PC to shut down if the CPU temp hits 80. Even on medium settings in game
round the clock back now to 4.4 ghz and dropped the voltage to 1.270 So far hasnt shut down playing on high settings over triple screen.
Not sure what to think could it be the cooler or the CPU ? or is it just b4 cause its funny how i can do prime 95 and its stays just under, yet bf4 which im sure does not max out all cores constant always sends core 2 above 80 after 5 mins play ?

Strange, it might just be that BF4 is more demanding causing higher temps? Are previous games still ok or are they an issue too?

Thats the thing, no issues on Arma 3, iracing, fifa 14 TBH are the only other games i play, The fans go heavy on arma 3 on triples, but the other two it dont break a sweat I know they are less demanding though on those the hottest core is 60 degrees, havent measured arma 3 yet, but it obv does not hit 80 or pc would shut down like on B4 Ill try mafia 2 and sleeping dogs later which will push it some and see if they make a difference.

Dusted of the fins again last night, thinking of sticking me vacum on them today see if that will make a difference, along with the new paste settling in overnight.

max temps I hit on the 620 with push/pull fans (Cleaned the rad not new thermal paste) is 70c , BF4 causes that temp no other game does although they push the temp close

add in the 680 sli and bingo you have your answer. how is your case set up, in the end i mounted my 620 to the top of my case that brought the temps down slightly also have a fan in the rear drawing the hot air from the GPU out my case.

Iv got a push pull setup to, i added the case fan to the other side of the radiator.
Its on the back side of a antec 1200 case, though i always have the panal off and the case open. iv stuck a vacum to the radiator aside from brushing the dust off, so ill see what my temps are now on 4.5 ghz all the cores right now on idle are around 35 degrees.ill see how long i last on bf before it shuts down

Check if the plastic backplate is fine.

My 620 wasn't cooling my CPU properly, got to 100c, but when I put some pressure on the pump so it makes a contact with the CPU, it drops to 60c, turns out the backplate was the issue.
