If the middle lane is clear move over eh?

I once had a totally random episode whereby a transit van decided to pick on me and not let me on the motorway at all. He matched my speed all along the motorway and forced me onto the hard shoulder and then did the same until I managed to get some speed out of my car.

I seem to attract this kind of thing.

This is why you need power, I had some guy in a Transit Connect try to do that to me in my stage 2+ a3 tfsi, debadged it looked just like a PD170, needless to say it didn't quite work for him :p

Why do so many drivers in the inside lane pull over to the middle lane each time they come to a slip road, the onus is on the driver joining to slip into the line of traffic, but they don't seem to teach that to new drivers. What is needed are signs on the slipways to "merge in with traffic".
The main problem with most of the slip roads is that they are too short and need extending

Courtesy. They may not be obliged to do so, but it makes it easier for those joining the motorway, so if there's room, why not?

No one knows how to join a motorway.

I don't think people know how to join roads. Poor bloke I knew 2 years ago got killed because he was doing 70 on a dual carriageway and an old guy in a mondeo came up to the junction and just cut straight across it without even looking if anyone was coming. Matey T-Boned him, died instantly on impact, old guy (who had no license and no insurance) got a broken arm.

I really think people should have to renew their tests every three years and make it all digitised so it is impossible to drive without a license!

Plenty of morons out and about today

Everyone seems to be sitting in lane 2 regardless

Bunch of plebs

If it's really busy you can normally slot in behind an hgv really close, then slow it down to get a safe gap then go about getting in a faster lane.

You need to be going 70mph before the end of the runway though to safely merge. 55 just isn't fast enough and I hate people that pootle down at 40mph.

Saying that there are some slip roads that seem ridiculously short. Is there a minimum length mandated by an authority?

I don't know but some of the slip roads in Cornwall onto the A30 are effectively just junctions at a bit of an angle, it's bloody ridiculous.

I see that video I posted last week is doing the rounds :D

It's always best to have your wits about you and drive sensibly. It astonishes me how many people are unable to use a mirror.

There's one nearer to you that I've seen a few close calls at for similar reasons, if you come off the M5 South at J10, the slip where the M5 comes off has a very gentle radius, then dumps straight onto the A4019 (a 50mph dual carriageway) towards Cheltenham.

The 'slip road' is relatively short given it joins motorway traffic to a 50mph dual carriageway, and the slope/angle that the slip joins the dual carriageway does not help matters at all. There is a house near the top that probably prevents the slip from being any longer...but from a safety point of view it could be a lot better.

I almost ended up being in a multi vehicle accident once on a slip road.

Joining the M4, the traffic got up to 50-60mph. Then all of a sudden the old lady 4 vehicles in front of me comes to a rather rapid complete stop just before the slip road ends. The silly old bat was treating the slip road/motorway as a normal junction as far as I could tell. So stopped 'at the junction' to check if there was anyone on the road she was joining.

Not a situation you expect on a slip road, luckily all the vehicles behind her managed to swerve out of the way or stop before hitting her.

Needless to say as soon as she saw there was no one (and I mean no one) on the actual motorway she drove off, most likely unaware of the massive accident she almost caused.

There's no problem with them actually being junctions, they just shouldn't disguise junctions as slip roads.

I have been known to see how fast I could get to the end of a slip road and how quickly I could be in the outside lane and around anything. My GT3 was world class at this, great noise, savage pull and epic epicness of cool when people saw it coming. I miss my GT3, not sure I mentioned that :(

145mph is a good speed.....in Germany, obviously.

Well this is the "Junction" to get off for fuel I was thinking of..
There isn't even any deceleration zone to get off, let alone trying to get back up to speed getting back on.
Just to add insult to injury, to the right of the pic is a fairly steep decline down to the junction. Nice!
