Advice on 15k V8 Saloon

The v6 is 240bhp and roughly the same price.

I fancy something a little better, but also the spec of the v8 premium lux is good too.

I agree to an extent that its not that powerful

Its more about value though as a newer shape E class or BMW is significantly more to purchase, more so approved used.

Power isn't everything but i would consider an E class with the v6 if it was anywhere near as good value to buy.

Its on my potentials list, but none that fit the bill right now.

Looking at £13k for the approved used Xf, it does seem good value to me. Who knows what else will come up though. Also enquired about a S500 but its stretching the budget and maybe a bit too big for my liking.

The 5.0 V8 is a much better engine - more power and better economy. Since you're looking at XFs I'd really try to stretch the budget for a 5.0.

Edit: Actually the 5.0 ones unfortunately start at more like £20k which is a slightly unrealistic amount more expensive.

only because there are so few around and that prices vary quite a lot. I paid £20k for mine from a dealer in March 2012 and it had 30k on the clock, 58 plate. I would expect to get about £15k for mine privately now, so with some patience the right deal will come up.

If I were in your position, either an E39 M5 or a B7 RS4 if you want something newer.

Nothing else in the budget really excites me, and I think if you are going to pay to service and run a V8 super saloon, then it is unacceptable to pay for something unexciting.

I like both also because they don't stand out, a lot of people can't tell the difference between an S line and an RS7 or an M5 and a 540i, other than the exhaust pipes, which a lot of people add to their diesel versions for some reason.

My money would be and probably will be going with the Lexus IS-F when good ones are down to this price. There are a couple of them at that price but high mileage or modded.

I too am surprised at the lack of E39 M5 on the shortlist. OK it's old but still ranks as one of the best V8 saloons ever made. You can get an excellent one for way less than 15k and it wont depreciate as much in the year as some of the younger choices, and doesn't have quite the same bill threat as some either. You can even occasionally find an AUC one, or one low enough mileage to qualify for cheap BMW warranty. You might not want to get rid of it in a year though :)

Jaguar. Really? Depreciation ftl.

Massive scope in your price range. Kleeman tuned E55 AMG would be my target, had a standard one that blew me away until I started watching You Tube vids! Put twice the miles on it than my 4S.

I have driven a non SRT 300c. Even a Veyron engine would not make the rest of the car on a par with your shortest. It's just not even approaching the same league.

You should try the Hemi filled SRT8 then :p

It turns a completely gash car into a mostly gash car. Horrible thing to be in and drive, but the engine is lovely :D

Well, the 4.2 seems to be a decent engine if not a great headline power figure.

Deal done on an approved used 4.2 PL with 70k for under £13k

Has some decent options inc B&W audio, radar cruise, heated wheel :) etc

Gave me a really good price for the Volvo after a terrible offer, so cost to change is good. Awaiting for the original plate for the Volvo to come back and then ill pick it up.

I'll fire up some pics when I get it.

Given that the advertised price was already under £13k I'm guessing you've not exactly managed to get a nice deal on it? Suprising given it's a V8, which nobody wants, in what must be the quietest month for car sales.

Though I guess it depends on how much over book they went with the Volvo.

Exactly

Got a good deal on the cost to change, a little over what I wanted privately so it turned out fine.

Having watched prices for a fairly long time, its still a decent sticker price on that car too.

Before you pick it up check the rear light clusters as there were problems with LED failure on cars that early.

How have you found the car? I'm adding this to my unknown list. have been looking for R32 but had a XFR pass me on the motorway and thought mmm

Ideally would like the estate, but no chance. What's the boot like on the saloon?

59 plate 123d at mo

Holy **** necro thread.

I was like, WTF, why would it take him a year to swap the S80 for an XF
