Just bought a 500GB PS3 w/GTA5 included. How to install the game so I dont need the game DVD in driv

Hey guys,

Ive been chewing fingernails off waiting for news of GTA5 on PC. I realize it might never happen so I went and got a PS3. Im really really thrilled , its great fun. Added bonus of a great bluray drive & ability to stream youtube, iplayer etc. Also didnt know I could push YT vids from smartphone to the console and show em on the TV. Sha-weet :)

Anyways....Ive been hooked on GTA5 (up till 0300hrs etc) and Ive noticed the DVD drive READING LIKE CRAZY :eek:

At this rate its gonna wear out the drive mechanism or do the laser in? :confused:

The console has a 500GB hard drive. How can I tell it to install it to the HD so I dont need the game disc? Or is this even possible?

Congrats on your purchase! ASAIK the disc has to be in the drive, as with any PS3 game you install from DVD.
Only if you purchase a digital copy (such as from the PSN store) will it run from the HDD without the dvd.

Ahh ok so any & every PS3 game on DVD will always need it in the drive. Thanks! Maybe Ill use my regular Samsung DVD player to watch movies to ease the wear & tear on the PS3!

I wouldnt mind having it in the drive just to authenticate it. GTA IV on PC does this - installs fully to HD but wants the disc to authenticate. Wish GTA5 on PS3 was like this too! Will have to look into it otherwise such a waste of a HD!

I agree, a mate of mine has a PS3 fatty (slot loader) and its nowhere as noisy as this super slim. I was looking for a new fatty but just couldnt find em anywhere.

You're thinking about the Xbox. If I remember rightly GTA V has a mandatory installation but it does still read data from the disk too.

You talking about the slim, or the super slim? The super slim is horrible in my opinion, but the slim is much quieter and cooler than the original models.
 
some games don't offer much of an install better to get gta 6 digital version in a sale

The blu ray drive won't wear out, fuggedabowdit.
