They've been a fashion default for decades now, do you think they'll ever be a time they won't be popular?

Jeans could well be a very good commodity and investment for the future!

Pair of Jeans is £20-£200 now, obviously upper end is the fancy brand stuff. In fifty years that could easily be £100-1000. If my calculations are correct that's a 500% increase. Certainly better than any ISA.

Is there a blue denim jeans exchange yet?

Why would a pair of jeans increase in price over time?

I hate them but they are a timeless classic and I can't see that changing any time soon.

If I'm wearing jeans I mostly wear Levi 501 original fit Moody Monday (not the blue/1615 version), I like a good vintage look pair of black jeans but no one seems to make good ones any more - all various silly blue ones.

A career in economics beckons!

Pretty sure I read a thread linked from one of the 'legendary threads' posts that involved someone on these forums buying 600 pairs of jeans and getting shafted for something like two grand.

Give me a minute and I'll see if I can track it down.

I remember this as well, classic.

Was it Shepster or something?

For a pair of jeans that actually increase in value you'd need to go boutique like Roy Denim, Iron Heart etc. But then you're looking at £300 a pair.

Jeans from G-Star and Levis are just expensive because of branding, not the quality of the product.

Only if someone famous has owned them.

Otherwise it is just cotton.

Doesn't have to be someone famous owned them. There's a particular type of 501 Levi's that are collectible to the skinhead crowd. Vintage 501's in general are collectible.

Wha..

I still have a pair of Levi 501s I purchased back in the mid 2000s. They've been used for casual wear and work from day 1 (outdoor work). Only now are they showing any sign of any real wear (minus colour fade).

Last year I ditched 2 pairs of 501s bought at the same time. Looking at 8 years or so for 80quid a pair...bargain.

In that time I've had jeans from various high street shops that survived for a max of 2 years before falling apart.

Levis are a quality brand for under 100quid.

It depends on the condition and year. The most expensive types are early good conditions. Jeans from the 50s and 60s actually go for silly money for what is just a pair of denim. Stuff that predates belt loops and come with suspender buttons instead get even more ridiculously priced. There's all sorts of ways to date your Levis denim: http://www.denimtraders.com/vintage.html
