Hey all,

So after I discovered that Winamp wasn't going to be supported any more, I figured I'd go for a new Media Player just to liven up my life, as you do...
After trying things like Media Monkey and FooBar, I came across the following little gem (not literally you filthy beggars).

MusicBee

It's a very good little media player, and it's got a ton of configuration, themes, and it's pretty easy to set up, even for me! (yes i'm looking at you Foobar developer!)
The only downside so far for me is the lack of iPhone/iPod management. Currently only supports iOS4 and under, which is slightly bizarre.

I can't do it justice, so give the link above a go for more details.

Anyway, in summary, if you're on the look out for a new media player. I wholeheartedly recommend MusicBee! :)

What does that even mean?

It means I get my best music sound when I play my MP3's through it.

If I drop them into Winamp, VLC, Media Player Classic, Windows Media Player or anything else they all sound awful but XBMC gives me a proper full sound.
And even if I use the graphic on say VLC I still can't get it to sound like XBMC.

Unless xbmc is applying internal eq then they're all using the same output medium, direct sound so I can't see how they would be any different otherwise?

^indeed. if XBMC sounds markedly different to all other players, the only explanation can be some kind of EQ/DSP settings applied by default.

on another tangent, just the other day i was reading some gibberish on head-fi where some doofus was claiming the sound of foobar 1.3 beta was better than version 1.2.9. and of course many audiophools claim foobar is better than other players. even the foobar developer himself has said this is complete nonsense. there really shouldn't be any difference between players, assuming something isn't broken.

and lastly, another post i read on hydrogenaudio today did make me smile. .

some nutter said:
And yes - for best audio - the file should be loaded into memory Ram , and played out of Ram (1 stick is best)

these people should be taken out back and shot. it's the only humane thing to do. :p

Crazy isn't it!

The only time iirc that there would be a difference when no EQ stuff is being used by a player is if the source file was a HD audio track and one player didn't support the higher sampling rates so had to output at the standard 44.1/16.

But whether the average user has the output equipment to be able to hear the difference or hearing good enough is another matter :p
