Get your Wallets Ready - Steam Sale Dates this Winter

Dark Souls was the biggest waste of money for me.

I dont mind games being difficult but hell i was not prepared for the frustration of this game, i was using a controller also and i have no idea why the game gets so much praise.

I found it to have a horrible clunky UI, graphics were horrible basically low res textures for anything bar the main character. Maybe i just dont have the paitence for it but prob the most overrated game in my collection if im honest, has been gathering dust after about 2hrs gameplay.

It's one of those games that I'll recommend to others for various reasons, and is also one that I like to watch others play (youtube play throughs). Having said all that, it's not a game that I like to play much. Too many negatives for me personally, but I still think there are plenty of valid reasons why someone else might like it. I also enjoy watching Demon's Souls play thoughs as well, so if any of you upload one, I'd like to know. :)

Oh yeah i totally appreciate people who enjoy the game, if anything i envy them but i just am not the sort of person who enjoys constantly replaying the same section of a game to get through it.

To me it makes the game more about luck than skill and for me rng just isnt a fun gameplay experience.

I had fun watching pewdiepie playing it tho because he had just as much rage as i would

Yeah, I sympathize with your comments. My main issue was the respawning enemies, which I appreciate is an integral part of the game. With some games, I can get my head around respawning enemies with little or no problem (stalker, for example), but with Dark Souls I just found it became too tedious. Maybe I should give it another shot some other time, or maybe I'll be have to stick to my armchair on the sidelines. :)

Dark Souls is unforgiven but fair, it isn't about luck. You learn what the enemies do and you learn how to avoid it or fight around it.

Dark Souls is a learning experience like no other these days. If you find your hand reaching for F5 for a namby-pamby quicksave, forget it. This game will chew you up.

It is hard. It will make you rage. It is fair.

The sense of achievement is like no other game out there. It is a throwback (in a good way) to the older generation of learning to defeat an enemy via familiarity and skill.

For some people, it is not their thing. They shiver at the thought of no multiple saves, of no quicksave and quickload. They recoil at the challange of getting kicked of a ledge to their doom. Of pixel-perfect timing and overcoming what were overwhelming odds.

You are not a man until you have defeated the Capra Demon and his dogs.

You have not tasted victory until Ornstein and Smough lie at your feet. :p

It is no better or worse than any of the other Steam sales. We just have most of the best games already.

Yeah, I think this is the first year where I've really just not been bothered by the Thanksgiving nor Christmas sales. I suppose it's perfect for people new to PC games but once you've seen one Steam sale, you've seen them all. :o

Just looking at dark souls

I like games that have a challenge (like the old days) but looking at some review videos etc it looks like a console game put onto the pc

So many new games are too easy and become boring :(

It is a console port. All you need is a pad and DSFix so sort the res. renderer or something.

Just be prepared to have your ass handed to you. Where games like HL2 and its ilk provide little or no challenge, this thing rips your leg off and beats you to death with it.

It isn't for everyone, I'll agree. However, if you persevere it is much more rewarding than anything released in the past ten years or whatever. Unless you count Demon Souls...

It is very much a copy/paste job. Do not play without a game pad and DSFix.

It is a fantastic game, though. I already own it on PC and PS3. Might buy it again now it's only £4, just for the hell of it.

No, the titles are all crap indie titles.

Dunno about 'all crap' but there is definitely more of an indie focus especially on the community votes. Here's my rough timeline of Steam sales:

Limited number of deals, but a lot of good publisher packs
.....
More deals, getting better
.....
Publisher packs getting less appealing as we've bought most of the ones we want
.....
'Quirks' introduced like holiday camps, treasure hunts etc - occasionally worthwhile to bag yourself some freebies
.....
Sales starting to get a bit repetitive, but worth sticking with to pick up a few bargains
.....
Community/Flash sales come in to get people coming back to the site regularly rather than every 24hrs, making it even more repetitive (Saints Row 3 on sale like 50 times)
.....
Starting to reach saturation point i.e. most serious punters already have most of the older games being discounted
.....
More of an indie vibe comes in, meaning more games we don't own on sale but potentially less appealing

Pretty much sums it up tbh :)

Yes i did that for my son a while back , its cheaper than just buying the DLCs

Just done it and the legendary edition isn't showing on my games list, and when I go to the dlc page from the normal copy of skyrim in my games list it's saying purchase instead of install. Could you tell me how to get the dlc installed please?

:EDIT: Nvm, think I've sorted it. Cheers
