So I had ordered a pre-built PC from another site and long story short,
The R7 250 card supplied died after 10 min so I shipped the lot back for a refund.
That PC was 500 quid and that (was) my budget.
I felt all I wanted was a system to do the basics on regarding media (storing and editing family snaps and videos) working with MS Office and of course gaming - in Mid settings for most games.

They actually did me a favor because 5 min after booting it up I regretted not pushing the boat out and getting a better GPU because there is nothing NOTHING worse than getting a brand new system and still have to click on 'Mid/low' in the settings to play a game. Not only is it frustrating it's actually a waste of money because no doubt I'd be shelling out for a better card after a few months and then maybe even a new CPU... Hell, I'd probably just give that one to the kids and go buy a proper one like I should have.

Well,
I've decided that the budget needs to be brought up to 1100. That's my max without not having diesel to get to work in January.
I've spent a bit of time picking out the parts.
I used to put PC's together 20 years ago for a well known multi national so I'd be OK with building it but still if OCUK offered the service I'd probably get them to do it (if anyone knows do they?)
So.. here's the spec..
Opinions are very much welcome! :-)

I believe they do offer the building service, but not sure. I can do you a spec up pretty soon, if I were you I would build it! It's good fun as you probably remember, have a go and you can probably save yourself some good money. As for your build, I think you can do better for that money :D I'll have a go (and do a bad job probably. :D)

Only difference between our builds is the mobo (I think the OC board has heard amazing praise, well worth the extra.) If you want to spend a little less, the the G1 Sniper Z87 or the UD3H. Also mine has a 290, lee's a 280X, whichever one takes your fancy but the 280X is on offer right now with a very good deal :D His includes a case + OS too.

The 280x is no longer on offer and costs £275 now.

:O Didn't notice that, I'd probably go with the R9 290 or an nvidia comparable card in that case.

Cheers. on iPad ATM but that's great thanks.

That cpu and board won't work together. You have a Haswell cpu with an ivybridge board.

Do you plan on overclocking ?

Thanks lee, just spotted that blunder now myself. :-p
No, I'll not be OCing so I'm happy to go with the i5 CPU below seeing as the
MSI 770 GPU will be doing most of the heavy lifting.
I'd prefer to stick with branded RAM just to be safe.
All in all, I'm pretty happy with the build for £1097.

Nice one.
I guess I really should go 4th gen.

Not willing to drop on the PSU, I may add more later...

Budget is well & truly smashed. Guess I'll be cycling to work.

£1120. Not bad for the price.

Your last post has confused me somewhat :D You now have a Z87 board which means you can overclock the cpu, BUT you have a non K chip.

In regards to the power supply I was suggesting a cheaper alternative that would save you money, but wouldn't sacrifice on quality. The difference between 'Gold' and 'Platinum' is probably 2 or 3 quid a year off your elec bill.

Anyway here is my last attempt ;) You will notice the 'k' processor and a bigger Seasonic power supply just in case you decide to add a 2nd graphics card.
