Offered a job in Singapore, undecided what to do

So I recently looked at Asia software contract jobs on LinkedIn as I got curious what the rates are like out there. Seems this activated something within LinkedIn as I suddenly got several Asian recruiters trying to befriend me, but a few days later one company got in touch directly and after some chat made a (permie) job offer.

Looks good, good firm and an interesting role, epic salary and low income tax.. little bit of travel involved to their other Asia offices but doesn't seem to be too much. And all in all, kind of a tantalising opportunity to do something off the beaten track for a while.

Having only just got back in early Dec from a longish trip to Vietnam, I am still a bit rose tinted spectacled about Asia in general I think. But it does of course mean leaving behind all my family and friends, probably selling both my cars :(, renting out my flat and well basically starting from scratch for a bit.

Would I miss London and the UK enough to want to come back immediately?

I only know literally one person in SG and she's saying I should just do it and that she'll introduce me to the rest of her friends. So that's a positive; It's certainly more than I had when I moved to London from the sticks a couple years ago!

This has been playing on my mind now since just before Xmas, grr

Singapore is the perfect place from which to watch the centre of global power and wealth shift from West to East. I doubt you'll regret it.

Cant believe your asking what to do.

How many people get a chance to earn more money in a different country, the uk is stale so i would go tomorrow.

Only things to watch out for are there are very severe rules on drugs and it isn't as LGBT friendly as London. You might not get much holiday time either.

If this issues aren't that important to you then go for it! As others have said, you can always come back if it isn't for you.

From what you've said the only thing holding you back is your comfort limit.

Go for it, it's sounds like the type of thing you wouldn't regret trying, you'd only regret not going for it.

Just do it man.. Will make you a better man, and better than most others in the UK who can't even leave their jobs for another, let a lone relocate.

Shows a lot of character and I would be hire someone who has done this over someone who has spent their life in one company.

Also should say, make sure its Legit.. people just don't offer jobs on Linkedin!

Singapore is a massively competitive market which heavily favours those with the citizenship. If someone is offering a job over the internet, I'd request for a face a to face interview (all expenses paid off course)..

Nath,

Do me a favour and go mate, I wish I could have stayed in Canada but it didn't work out but I miss it every day, you need to take this opportunity buddy or it'll haunt you. If it don't work out you can come back, you've nothing to lose and everything to gain. I had a similar chat with Ash recently about an offer he had in San Fran!

Send me a message on FB if you wanna chat more!
