hey guys,

i was watching a youtube video of a case unboxing, then my CPU went to full load! it was making a high pitched whine/clicking, then dissapeared, if i increase or decrease my browser it whines slightly this stops when im finished, i have not try a game as i simply dont dare, i cant afford to replace it.
tbh it sounds like its coming from the CPU area.

i had my CPU overclocked to 4.6GHZ since i got it about 2-3weeks ago, i have now reset it to stock and its still whining when moving a app around etc.

what could have caused this and how do i fix it? is it a RMA job?

spec is here

FX 8320
ASUS CHVFZ
2X4GB xms3 1600mhz
H80i
HD 7990
OCZ vertex 2E 120GB
1TB HDD
ASUS DGX5.1

thanks guys

UPDATE:
google chrome seems to be the only app that makes the whining, steam and my computer has no effect :/

The motherboard, cpu, cooler and 7990 are not even 6months old, if it's a problem with the mobo or chip, can I still return it for a refund? If so I'll add to it and go back to intel

I turned off hardware acceleration but no difference, i started prime95 blend test and not a peap from the PC, so I'm guessing it's my 7990! :/

my 7990, now has bad coil whine/clicking when under load vsync'd at 60fps and 120fps, both have horrible loud coil whine.

Arent 7990 prone to coil whine? im sure i read somewhere people complaining that they developed bad coil whine noises, my 290 whines a bit in certain scenarios, like the login screen for MMO's or the char select screen but when playing its fine.

are those headphones usb powered? if so try powering them externally from a wall/usb phone charger ect

noise should go away, also try turning off amd cool n quiet in the bios and see if noise stops

the headset is fine, its the 7990 thats the problem, it was fine yesterday daytime.

im going to overclock my CPU again soon

it can be a combo of the gpu/board/psu

either one can make/produce the sound more depending on make/model,its emi leakage from any of those parts

can also be the cpu power saving, its heard more when the fps are very high (game menu's)ect

you can hear the emi static through the headphones as it comes from the usb power port and leaks into the front audio jack plug
