Steedie started the forever alone Christmas thread a few days back. Now it's time for forever alone NYE / NYD thread.

Most of my friends are long-distance, and I found out just now that my only local (Stafford) friend have been offered triple pay on NYD starting 0800 meaning he can't come around mine tomorrow. Can't blame him, but it means I've got no one tomorrow now. It had happened twice before in 2004 and 2006 and I just buzzed off to Godskitchen and got a 0400 train Birmingham-Stafford. A couple of things now though. I'm 35, haven't been proper clubbing for 5 years, so well out of the scene. Plus there is no longer a 0400 service. First train back to Stafford is now 0900 wtf! It used to be only Sundays where 0900 was the 1st train back, but mid-week and bank hols had always been 0400ish.

Anyone else in the same boat? I know NYE isn't a big deal for some, but I always much prefer to be with mates and/or at a dance venue.

My options are either to go out around Preston on NYE or out in Liverpool over the weekend.

Given that nights out in Preston are crap and the good looking woman ratio is about 1:1000, I think Liverpool seems the best option.

So I'm stuck in NYE but out clubbing on the 4th.

Forever alone at NYE also, thanks for saving me the job of making the thread. Although NYE has never been a big deal to me so I'm pretty much care free about being alone for it.

Housemates have done one for a couple of days, I'm single and I can't be bothered dealing with drunk masterbaters even for double time so it's me, the dog and a massive steak :D and a late night trip to the gym which I'm hoping will be empty as they'll all be off getting the gunz out for the bishes.

Staying in on me own with the cats. Iceland Chinese feast box thing, "Class of 92" DVD to watch and some schloer.

Classy bird me :D

unless he's driving, operating equipment or supervising small children then tell him to MTFU and go out drinking... 'working NYD' is the lamest excuse ever as far as the majority of jobs are concerned... I'd say most people below 40 who are working on NYD are doing so with a rather large hangover. I had to do it the first year of my current job and spent the whole time nursing a hangover while talking on the phone with aggressive yappy asian bankers speaking ridiculously quickly in engrish... a really irritating thing to have to deal with when hung over but still perfectly feasible.

Yeah that's what I thought too. He only works in customer services, and that's not even callcentre stuff, just answering support tickets via email. He doesn't drive either, just a 30-minute walk for his commute. The only thing he's got going for him though, since you mentioned ages, is that he does turn 40 in July 2014.

I reckon that's poor form on his part... could quite easily not drink too much and leave shortly after midnight if he's really worried about work. Sounds like you need to convince your mate not to be so lame.

Spent the last 3 NYE's alone, this one shall be no different :(

I spent the last one with my ex and after going for an overpriced poor quality meal at a place that's usually really good when they're not milking new years, then ended up paying to get into a couple of pubs and bars full of drunken idots overcharging for beer we were back at the hotel before midnight, then she disappeared to her mates room who had just dumped her bf so I didn't see her for the rest of the night.
The previous 5 I'd worked surrounded by drunken idots who don't go out the rest of the year so just act like complete ***** after a sniff of beer and want a fight.
So I'm actually looking forward to a nice quiet cheap night in with no hangover, no idiots (apart from the dog) and no need to sleep all day on the first because I didn't finish work till 7am.
