Gaming pc for £500/600

I think that's a good build too, maybe even spend another ~£15 for a 2TB drive and ~£4 for faster RAM.

this spec looks very similar to:-

would the gtx 660 be sufficient to play skyrim??( im looking ahead to elder Scrolls online) .

If not, what would be the best cost effective GPU to put in??
Apologies for jumping on to Haz's thread, but the build was so similar thought i'd ask.

the 280x is a much better GPU than a 660, and will remain relevant for longer, but a 660 gtx can play skyrim at 1080p no problems - 100%, however skyrim is particularly CPU dependent compared to most games and i5's really kick the AMD processors to the curb in the case of that game (i don't think skyrim utlises very many cores, and intel processors are more powerful per core) - HOWEVER, it's still incredibly playable with a 6300 fx, it's more something you should be concerned about if you're planning on maxing out the next one or two elder scrolls games. (but those may utlise all cores of the AMD's, who knows?) AMD cpu solutions are also much better bang for buck for the mid range gaming rig

sorry, babbling a bit! just trying to help you be as informed as possible

Well the 280x is about £120 more than the 660, which I suppose relates to the performance difference.

true, i didn't realise how much 660 prices had come down! also - i was referring to the comparative price of the £600 build with a 280x to the prebuilt option at £580 with a 660 - still, at £135~ it's capable at 1080p for the price
