upgrading from a 6970 , rest of system is a i5 3750k at 4.4 , 16 gig ram on a z77x-up7 monitor is a dell u2410

choice is to get a 780 gtx (classified or ghz ed) or wait it out a month and see if the 290x aftermarket cooler prices settle down a little with wider availability

Waiting a month sounds painful for such a small difference in performance.

Might be wrong. But the 290x is usually faster than a 780. But also a lot louder and hotter. Both are good choices. It all depends on what OP needs.

Yeah it is a touch faster. An extra £120 though if you compare cheapest non-reference cards. Not worth it in my opinion.

Ill admit r9 290/290x are stupid if you dont put blocks on them. They really shine under water though!

290 under water are good cards and with custom coolers. But out the box I would go 780 especially with the free games and prices that can be had if bought on the right day.
