HD7990 Replacement...GTX780 OC or 290X

I have the msi gaming gtx 780
Played everything fine i have thrown at it, and its that quiet you have to check it the fans are actually on, playing b4 at 1080p with everything on ultra, you can hardly hear it, infact my psu fan is louder
Also the red and black will look nice in your case

Power Color and VTX are the ones you should look for cough *rainforest* cough.

Does it come with BF4? I got mine from OcuK a few weeks back when they did the special offer (just before xmas) for £300x2=£600 Minus the sale of BF4x2=£560 for crossfire. Mine didn't unlock though and tbh i had a feeling they wouldn't. Otherwise OcuK would not have been selling them cheap. Nonetheless they're still great value for money and appear to be capable overclockers as well.

Yeah. I got offered a free trip to Hawaii (thanks to the miners) after two solid years in Tahiti so decided i may as well take a free upgrade.

It doesn't specify as to whether the card does or not, something I'll need to enquire about. The site I'm looking at obviously have never sold them as unlocked etc so they'll just be selling what they have.

How is the stock cooler in all honesty? If I was to stick with that for a while would it be fine do you think?

If you have one card its fine, when you have two cards you need a good case airflow to keep temps down. Best to setup a custom fan profile imo as the stock one is a bit too conservative. Changing the paste and using a quality paste like Gelid GC Extreme makes a real difference (so ive heard :p) and will net you about 3-5c cooler temps. Fan speed is fine up to 55% and only gets loud once you exceed 60% imo. If you want a silent card, look elsewhere.

I'm moving into a flat soon Matt so headphones will be used over speakers soon...so sound of the card won't be a real issue.

I checked the product codes and it would appears it's the one with BF4 so should be fine there, which I could sell no problem, then of course I will be slapping a Hybrid on it eventually too ;)

Go for it then, bang per buck can't be beat @£560 for 290 crossfire.

There is an Accelero Xtreme, the Gelid one and the Pro...limatek? haha!

They will all be options for sure too...but decision has been made on that front, I may even have a look at the NZXT G10 that are coming out as I quite like the styling of those...plenty of time to choose though.

VTX3D R9 290 X-Edition 4GB has been ordered and arrives on Friday :)

Will play the 290x lottery with it and if not, well so be it :p £312 minus 2% cashback and a surprise £30 I had in my paypal account works for me.

The money I've made back on my HD7990 will be heading into the holiday fund :)

It's the low price of the 290 that's swayed me...was going to plump for the 290x but I don't necessarily need it to be fair.

So happy enough with my purchase and IF I can't get along with the stock cooler I know there are plenty of options out there to remedy it :)

290 is about 5-7% behind a 290X so running a 290 @ clocks of 1050/1250 will see you pretty much level with a 290X.
