Spec me £13k

is strong in this one.

:D

Haha yeah absolutely!

I don't think I would look much past a MK5 GTi at that money for a woman. My wife loved hers even though she seems to want to bend it at every opportunity and also had a attraction to cameras, so it had to go, but a really good car. I suspect you could get a nice Edition 30 model for 10ish, that's where I'd go.

I think this is the car, but its a weird budget, a lot of the MK5 GTi's are long in the tooth now, and have 70kish miles, there also don't seem to be many about, I thought there would be an absolute abundance of them.

The mkV is pretty long in the tooth, like the A3, at the upper end of your budget I'd be looking at something more upto date. However if you don't want to spend the whole 13k you could get a decent mkv gti and pocket a good few grand,

When I agreed to help, I did not realise Golf GTi's were not 10 a penny, how does one go about getting a decent 09ish from a used approved dealer if there are only 4 in the country, its 200 miles away, and you want to buy in cash so want to haggle a bit off the price?

I would like to get her in a MK6 if possible over a MK5.

Just buy her a golf gt tdi, they're everywhere. And she'll get awesome MPGzzzz.

An update on this. She must have been a car sales mans wet dream.

After refusing to look at 08 plate cars because they were too old she went to a VW main dealer without me because I told her I wasn't just going to say yes to her ideas to help her justify her poor buying decisions, so off she went on her own, good riddance, thats a hassle off my back.

Goes into VW, "I want a nice used Golf GTi"... Comes out with a brand new Polo GT Blue edition (140bhp, slow as any rubbish little hatchback)...... on finance. Well played VW, well played. Shes had it a month now and I was a passenger for the first time at Christmas, it rides awfully and she thinks the auto stop start is some exclusive premium feature, I didn't have the heart to break it to her that most poverty spec mini's etc have that at this point and its not a big deal. "Yes its got nice leather seats" was what I went with.

And infinitely worse interior ergonomics, I'd take the golf over the over rated Audi any day of the week :)

WHAT?
The only Golf on the same level as an A3 8P2 interior wise is the MK7 and even that is nowhere near the equivalent A3 8V.

Can I have some of the crack you are smoking please?

Women always think they know best. It is best just to leave them to it to be honest.

As for the Polo, even though I am 6ft 8, I would still have one over a MK5 Golf, they are pretty nippy when remapped too at around 180hp.

I'd say a Mini Cooper S Convertible.

They look 'cute', they come in nice colours, with stripes and shiney chrome. They have a fancy looking dash, and Madonna had one.

Ah, I C I missed a post.

My point was, women think differently about cars, as you have seen. I'm sure she's perfectly happy with it.

Why would you ever want a Polo over a Golf - assuming you're talking about the same mark/age car?
