There's a voice that keeps on calling me.
Hey Folks,

I popped to mates house last night, and he had what looked like UPVC cladding on the ceiling, didnt look bad, as he had spots and chrome strips and some form of coving around the edges.

I've never seen this before, and my mate bought the house with it done already, looked quite nice and It got me thinking about doing my bathroom the same way, I was thinking about having mine replastered anyway, but this might be a DIY job I could do myself and it would save me painting the damn thing ever few years.

What are people opinions on this type of ceiling?

Tacky.

Use IP65 Shower rated downlights, Dust tight and protection from projected water.

One other thing I've seen badly fitted downlighters melt a pvc cladded ceiling, so choose your fittings wisely.

And you could use LED lamps instead of halogen lamps, cheaper to run, & less heat.

It might have been "mermaid board" he had, well mermaid board might be a brand and not the thing.

Sometimes it looks really tasteful and well done but often just looks cheap and as a cost cutting measure for tiles.

Why are you having to repaint your bathroom ceiling every few years? If it's condensation related then fix that with suitable air handling, don't just treat the symptom.

My bathroom is very cold (part of an old extension and despite having 2 windows, and an extraction fan, its seems to forever be moist. Now thats not an issue on the tiles, but the sealant and roof paint seems to get spotted with mould every 2 years.

I'd like to get underfloor heating in room, that should help regulate the temp better.
