Boggo 56 plate tdci zetec model which has even her daily for 2 years now

Never bad a problem until the mot last month passed with advisories on the bottom arms both sides. So that was a hefty bill for a pair of arms along with some routine service stuff which came to a nasty £700or so after adding tyres

Whilst having it under scrutiny for the above noticed she had a gubbed engine mount. Cue another £200 worth of parts then followed by borrowing it last week and noticing a DMF rattle. Ouch new clutch Nd flywheel arrived yesterday to the tune of£500 and another £70 for a timing belt kit (May as we'll throw one on whilst I'm doing other serious work)

Spent more on the focus this last month than I did in 2 years of lcr ownership

Least it's done now but I dread to think what else it's going to throw up

But rant over has anyone done a clutch/flywheel on a mk2 focus any thing in particular I should be looking out for or is it relatively straight forward. Last one I did was a vectra with the f40 box which was a horrible experience

Bloody hell, you really that keen to save the labour? I will never, ever do a clutch without a ramp/lift again. I don't know much about the mk2 but can find out if there are any particular issues to watch out for tomorrow if that's remotely useful?

Not exactly hardcore will be running for the house like a big puff if it's cold or wet

This is where I miss proper cars like cavaliers with solid flywheels and clutches you could change via the inspection plate rather than dropping the box

I can't even bring myself to go and do my oil filter housing gasket which doesn't require me to lie on the ground at all. Not exactly diy weather just now, though its been a relatively mild Glasgow winter so far!

Glasgow, January, wettest/windiest winter ever. Hmm

It's actually been pretty mild up here 6/7 degrees during the day

Better than paying someone £150 to do it for me and I get serious brownie points from the wife

It has been bucketing nearly every day though - no fun if you're on the deck, even worse if you're on the deck, on the road.

I'd take the 150 in a heartbeat, honestly. With a lift and an extra pair of hands then fair enough just crack on, but on the road with axle stands, limited height and no real help...nah

Spent a fortune on it this month and I loath to spend another penny more than I have too

Nudging on for £1500 in the last month spent on it and tbh with Christmas just past I'd rather save the £150 might phone my old man see if I can borrow his garage for a day. Maybe see if he wants to lend a hand ;)

I'm coming to the conclusion older Focus start becoming a money pit.

Last year I had to get the cambelt done, along with the brakes and service. While it was in they looked into a rumbling noise at the rear and said the bearings had gone, so it needed new rear hubs. Ended up costing a stupid amount. Hoped it would last for a a while given how much I'd spent on it, more than it was worth.

This year had been looking at changing but decided not to, just get it serviced. Had a call while it was in saying the front bushes needed changing, another £350 as the bushes needed new front suspension arms. They didn't tell me until I went to pick it up that the rears were also nearly gone (quoted £150 if all goes to plan but can be much more, needs special tool and if arm bends it results in new suspension arms needed), and that there is a slight clutch leak (no quote yet). If I'd known I'd have not had the work done.

As such it has cost me around 2k in the last year and a bit and is worth just over 1k (135k mile 1.6 2005). Even more noises appearing, so just going to run it until the MOT in April (if it lasts that long which I'm doubting) and then probably change.

wow I have been depressed for 2 days because I was stung paying £200 for some replacement glass in my house, this thread has just cheered me up

I realised 10 years ago, why pay some other monkey £40-60 an hour when I don't even earn that myself

I helped my mate a few months ago change a DMF on a Vectra cdti 150 F40 box, he payed £120 for a brand new dmf, took us about 5 hours to swap it out

You've spent 5x more on a reliable focus than I have on a flimsy Alfa 156 ;)

:D

Wife's previous car was an electrically challenged 156 JTS I think the dealer that sold us it had a nervous breakdown with the amount of times he has it back lol that said didn't cost us a penny
