Super Sports trade wet performance for better dry performance, something which probably isn't that useful on a diesel Golf. Better to go for something with all round ability, perhaps the Contisport Contact 5?

Goodyear F1A2's are a slightly cheaper slightly better option imo.

£100 on Camskill too for this size... i've been pondering over them or Vred Ultrac Sessantas at £81.

The Goodyears are better in every possible way. You won't miss the £19 when you have to endure the inferior tyre for 8000+ miles.

I was leaning towards them, especially as the Sessantas don't appear to be available in as many places...

I was thinking of calling local tyre places and seeing if they can price match the Eagle F1s tomorrow. Either way I'll need the tyres fitted.

Has anyone had much luck price matching tyres with local places?

I can't help you with that, but [TW]Fox had some Goodyears delivered very quickly from http://lovetyres.com recently, and I believe they were the cheapest too.

I got my F1A2s from http://www.mytyres.co.uk and they took about 3 working days to arrive from Germany.

I'm not sure if you've checked those sites, but there are loads more than just Camskill.

Ooh... Eagle F1s are actually cheaper on lovetyres too. £93 a tyre.

I've tended to find my local independent tyre place will generally match or beat any online fitted price i can find. It's a lot less hassle than buying them online, waiting in for the delivery and then actually finding someone willing to fit tyres you bring there yourself. Around here at least most garages wont fit tyres that aren't bought through them and if they will they want £25+ per tyre fitting!

Did a bit of calling around this morning... seems the F1A2 is on backorder at many suppliers but I did find one place. £116 quoted, they knocked it down to £110.10 per tyre fully fitted etc which works out slightly more expensive that lovetyres+fitting but I'll have it all done by tomorrow
