Bit of a boring thread I know, but planning to move to a 12month sim deal.

I've heard how a contract can help with credit rating, and that a credit card can paying it on time too can help.

Now my naivity of the whole situation is going to show...

Could you get the contract, put it on your credit card and then every month have a direct debit set up to pay off the amount the contract is worth- in theory doubling up on the "good credit points."

I asked Orange about paying my bill via my credit card. They charge you some amount extra, I think it was about £2/month, so I declined. Also, don't hold me to this, but I think you have to call up every month and make the payment.

Basically you want to pay the phone bill with a DD through the CC? Pretty sure you can't.

You could however pay the bill as a card payment however it usually costs you more.

from what im aware of it shows on your credit report that you have a phone contract with a network and that it show if you have made any missed payments

My credit rating from Equifax has recorded my last two phone contracts.

As for what you're asking, logically i don't see why not. Most people i know pay off their credit card balances via a direct debit. However you may get charged for using a credit card.

Surely you'd be able to see on the website if you can pay via credit card, or whether then only accept direct debit/cheque etc.

Have you seen the CC that boosts your credit rating? Buy using it and then pay it off each month helps.

Even if you have good credit rating.

And if you play it well, you can get some good bang for your bucks.

I have a halifax ultimate rewards account and halifax credit card (cant remember which one).

Basically, if I put £1000 quid or more in my ultimate reward (easy as I pay myself into that account) they give me £5.

If I pay off i think its £1000 or 1500 a month on my credit card, they give me £5.

So by spending on my credit card all month, then paying it off in full, im paying only £5, instead of £15 for my ultimate rewards account, which, works out pretty good if you ask me.

Considering ive dropped two galaxy s2's, and they've repaired both, i've more than got my money back. Not to mention the other insurance benefits.

Bear in mind that what you're talking about is a drop in the ocean. If you could have a good 'credit score' (not that such a thing exists in the UK) by having a mobile contract and paying it off every month then most of ITV's demographic wouldn't be needing Wonga.

In my experience paying for mobile contracts in general counts for jack, even for your next contract.

If you want to build on your low/non-existent credit score then get a credit card with your bank (this is the easiest and non-detrimental to get assuming you have a good standing with them) and build up slowly from there.
