Hey all,

I'm after a laptop with similar spec to the dell l502x (primarily looking second hand here) to replace my old D630.

Can anyone suggest me anything else to look at as on ebay they seem to come up few and far between when you're after one with a 1080p screen!

Thanks for any help :)

Its hard to give much information as most perople here won't know what spec are based from the dell l502x, let alone googleing it (I can't be bothered to know i know becuase its 0:40)

Here are some questions that might get this thread going.

Whats your budget?
What do you use your laptop for?
Whats the main important i.e. Screen resolution, CPU power, gaming?

I use my laptop as a sofa surfer mate. I currently have a D630 (core 2 based dell latitude) and only really use it for sofa browsing / the odd very old game!

The l502x I was looking at has the following spec

i3/i5/i7 cpu
Would want the 1080p screen (15")
4/8GB ram
GT540M

You seem to be able to pick them up on the bay for around £599 which suits me price wise! If I could connect it to the tv that'd be a bonus and is something that I guess most laptops have now, my d630 only has vga and its not something I've ever bothered with on this one (tv has no vga!)

Thanks for your reply :)

Hi Mike, I've had an l502x a year or so with the options you want and to be honest not sure I can recommend it now as it is such a lump. Also have turned into a sofa monster and even with a lap thingy it just feels a weight after a while, especially compared to my work Lenovo ultrabook. Now, horses for courses you may say, but I think there would be something a bit more modern out there for you that is a bit nicer looking. Oh, and the fan seems to ramp up for no real reason, its got an integrated GPU / CPU cooler and I've had Dell out to look at it and replace it twice. Have just accepted its noisy now and use headphones if gaming for longer periods.

Not sure on an alternative for you but just started looking too..

Thanks for the detailed reply mate! I read that they run a little hot but my d630 tends to spend most of its time with the fan screaming now so I'd imagine the 502x to hopefully be a bit quieter!

I can't see any ultrabooks that are tempting with similar specs, I like the idea of the 540m just for the odd old school game or something and I think the ultrabooks mostly feature igpu's?
