I also bought this 47" LG in the sales. Cracking price as according to the LG website, it has the same technical specification as the 690 version which is approx. £150 more than this Currys exclusive. I think the main difference between the 660 and 690, as far as I can ascertain, is the casing/bezel with the 690 being the more upmarket silver bezel of the 740 and the 660 having the bezel of the lower end 620.
I agree with Droolinggimp's excellent review. Impressed with the picture quality for both films and games. My main TV is a 2011 model 59" D6900 Samsung Plasma which is known for its very good picture quality. Although LED is not really comparable to plasma due to the over bright picture and colours compared to the natural picture of a plasma, I really liked this LG. The LED picture is better suited gaming than the plasma IMHO.
As regards 3D, although lower resolution, I much prefer the passive 3D of the LG to the Active 3D of the Samsung. It feels more comfortable and also gives a lot more depth to the picture but the acceptable viewing angle for 3D on the LG is narrower than the Samsung.
The SMART feature on the LG TVs is excellent. I think Samsung and LG are the leaders here. The LG has apps for all the main catch-up and streaming services in the UK which is convenient and handy.
One feature not mentioned yet is the voice recognition. Although it may seem as a bit of a gimmick it is seriously impressive. It can do a variety of functions using voice control including changing channel, checking the weather, finding out when a program will be on etc. If you have the TV, I highly recommend you give this feature a spin.
