why is it that all Need for Speed games seem to run rubbish on the 280x? I have ran 2 games and they both run choppy and slow as hell.

what's going on here

Have heard that setting the affinity of which core for it to use helps with NFS games. With this in mind, i would say martini is right and you are getting bottlenecks due to fairly weak clock for clock performance combined with limited core use.

What is your CPU clocked at?

Never played any Need For Speed games, so i cant comment on how CPU heavy it could have been or even if the problem is that it doesn't like multiple cores.

CPU AMD Phenom II X4 940
What speed do you have that running at, is it stock? would be a good idea to overclock it as high as you can, if anything is wrong thats causing lower performance its that CPU.

8GB do you think the processor is weak?

Would be more accurate to say it is outdated. At stock it is fairly weak but clocked up they will have a fair bit more grunt. Open up the game and once in game, tab out and open GPU-Z. Then play a bit and check what your highest and average GPU usage was. Dont let the game go into a loading screen or let the PC go idle with GPU-Z in the background, or the averaged results will show lower values than they should (staying tabbed out of game will do this aswel).

I did a quick look and that CPU is marginally better than a core 2 duo Q6600... That is definitely a bottleneck. That PSU doesn't look the greatest mind I wouldn't want that in my system I thought Jeantech were known for cheap case manufacture?

I have always liked AMD don't really want to go for Intel will it make much of a difference?

No need for a bundle when he has 8gb of DDR3.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM £169.99
1 x Gigabyte Z87X-SLI Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £97.99
Total : £267.98 (includes shipping : FREE).

This will perform much better for the games you play. Will need a cooler though but still puts you way under the other budget.
Better option I didn't know what his ram was or if it was compatible with Intel.
