How do you benefit from having it?

Could shave off another £25 from dropping it on my renewal.

You don't need it, it will help in the event of a claim but if you have it on your house insurance don't have it on your car insurance as well as one will suffice.

So if you have a no-fault accident that keeps you off work for a period of time your household insurance is going to help you recover these "uninsured costs"?

Don't know how much faith you put in the people over at PH - but when the same question was asked there the general consensus was very much to keep it.

A third party legal firm will be dead keen to do that for free.

It's called legal protection and if you have it on your household or car it covers both so no need to pay it twice, I was advised this by an insurance firm when getting a quote, they said as I had it on my car insurance there was no point me buying it with their house insurance as I would be paying twice for the same product.
