Mercedes CLS talk to me

So you're dead set on a CLS? I know nothing about those specifically but I'm sure I could find you potential alternative V8s that I also know nothing about.

Forget the CLS, get an M3.

Wildcard, skyline r33-gtr.

I like the CLS as it is a swoopy 4 door exec saloon car with a big engine.

M3 doesnt do it for me at all.

And if it was gonna be 90's jap, we all know what it would be.

Have we not already established that powerful RWD cars are a definately not a good idea? :p

What about a nice Skoda Superb 2.0 TDI?

Go drive a CLS then I guess. I don't think you'd keep it long, it's not a b-road blaster. C55 AMG, not good enough? Seats 5, looks great.

What a recommendation. :p

Is crap inside and is ancient. The CLS is a much better car, I agree with you that its an odd choice for somebody with Naths car history and I agree I doubt it would really work for him but the CLS is miles better than the C Class.

I agree, I just thought I'd recommend it since he wants a V8 Merc. They're quite cheap now and offer AMG for not so much money if you consider how much it's depreciated.

It's just the CLS is a big car which is driven by men in their 50's, young arabs, drug dealers, or young ghetto lads who have hired them out for a wedding.

Mercs as a rule don't do it for me, but the CLS - all of 'em - I've always liked.

It's no performance car I.e. It's very fast when you boot it but not "Seat of the pants feel wise" at least, but striking styling IMO and a drive to match.

The last thing I'd imagine Naith in mind you!

That gen CLS is getting a bit tired inside now though right?

You can get the newer shape E Class for a decent price. Whats the budget? Failing that, the previous gen S Class?

Thats why its £12k not £50k still, though....

Still a CLS? For Nath? Just seems such a strange choice of car. I won't begin to think how long it may take him to shift it on unless he part ex's. It's not really the sort of car a lot of people go for these days due to the expensive bills it could potentially throw up.

I really think that you should get a list of cars you would potentially like next and possibly, state, how long you would like to keep the car for. I'm sure the vast majority of members have some experiences of popular cars that you may choose. £12k of your money on a bad purchase, we've had plenty of those with members from here.

maybe you need something 4WD? It will give you a better chance on the road :) A friend at work managed to pick up a 57 plate Audi S5 for £14k, ive not searched the web but they might be available for your budget.

They're around the £16-18k mark now for a decent example a little over £18k. The 4.2FSI isn't a bad engine, pulls well, 350bhp standard with a 0-62 time 5.1seconds. It certainly does shift. Would I choose it over a AMG CLS? No, I personally wouldn't.

IMHO the 335i is a better car than the S5 (Which is its main rival, BMW just didn't chose a name that seperated it from the rest of the range as Audi did with the S5).

Nath, apart from the CLS. Any other cars which you are inclined towards? If you have any questions regarding the CLS, head over to mbworld.org, great advice on there.
