If you're looking at the evga 770 classified(£360 at ocuk, maybe cheaper elsewhere but we can't talk about that) may as well get a 780 or non reference cooler 290 for a little bit extra, well there is the MSI 780 gamer edition for £360 but currently out of stock.

I'm no expert so don't quote me on it but apparently the classified has uprated components and what not which allow for higher overclocking ability etc, tho its no guarantee that it'll oc any higher than any other 770 spo I don't see the point(well there's the dual bios if you're into flashing the bios so gives you a fail safe).

I've finalised my decision now between the 770 scx and the 280x toxic, I'm not sure how much better the toxic is but I have heard very good reviews of the 770 and the acx cooler so I'm stuck between them :(

280X is the better card so unless you have a specific reason why you must get a 770, get a 280X.

By how much would you say the 280x is better? And have you seen any reviews on the cooling and noise levels of it ?

It just has better specs, more vram, wider bus, better AA performance, comes with better and more games. Its just a better card. Its not massively faster than a 770, but it is faster and the overall package is superior.

With your budget this 280X is within touching distance of stock 780 speed. It overclocks very well and is cool and very quiet.

I've also been looking at some 290s, is there going to be a drop in the custom cooled versions as they're a lot more than the stock ones around £320. Also will 270x in fc outperform the 290 ?

Not sure, doubt it. I'm using reference 290's and they're great. However if you want a silent card then look elsewhere. The bang per buck they offer though cannot be beat.

A 290 is much faster than a 270X. Whats fc?

I presume FarCry 3? In which case I wouldn't have thought there'd be a massive difference at 1080p.

I see a fairly big boost in Farcry 3 fps coming from a stock 7990 to stock 290 Pro crossfire. That was at 1440P though. 4xMSAA was unplayable on the 7990 with fps tanking to the 40's but with 290 its in the 70's and 80's+.
