Hi all,

Looking for some advice regarding the Venice carnival from someone who's been.

I suppose the real question I have is, is there a lot going on in the streets around this time? Spending huge amounts of money on a function isn't really my cup of tea, but I'd like to get some photography done.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Stay outside of Venice and travel in, its easy enough to get a train/bus combo to then just have a wander without the expense of staying there.

We flew with Ryan Air and stayed in Marghera-Mestre at a hotel called Villa Adele, we got it on a special deal £60-70 a night. But it was an easy one bus ride to the station then hop on the train to ride in. The rooms were fairly good and it had breakfast included which was continental, very friendly staff.
