He will be playing it on a 30 in hd tv. Gaming and a lot of editing are the main uses.

Looking 6 core cpu
dual graphic card motherboard - single card just now but will add on later, another card
250gig SSD as a minimum
16 gig of fast RAM
Cosmos case
high end cooler - he won't be watercooling...as in, "proper water cooling"
A high end AIO would be acceptable. If choosing a high end AIO then good fans for the Radiator to replace stock fans.
Blu Ray player with software so retail version for the trial I presume?
Top end power supply to allow, later on, dual gpu setup.

Thinking a 290 card with the option of another 290 card later on. Want the main parts, mobo, cpu etc to be top end now as opposed to spending too much on graphics at this stage.

Does the cosmos have a fan controller?

Budget between 2k and 2.5k if it's worth going to £2.5k
 
Your only going to get a Ref 290 at the mo, the non refs arent in stock for a few weeks, might be an idea to hold off til then, or go with a 780ti or dual 780s
 
The graphics take a second to the main CPU/mobo/ram/cooler part of the build at this point..hence the 6 core cpu request. He can add another GPU later on for a good dual setup.
 
Ok but you mentioned 290's.. and well if your going reference with them then you definitely need to cool them properly, either a loop or with an aftermarket hs and fan setup.

So your going to be looking at a 780 or 780ti i guess, i will leave the spec for others tbh, as i havent dabbled in the 6 core area.
 
I'm open to suggestion for GPU :) I just heard that 290 xfire was a plum setup. A decent 780TI single card just now would also be an option.
 
All modern games, video editing and photo editing too....hence 16 gig fast ram request.

Might be going down a dedicated monitor route in future but it'll on the livingroom tv for now.

Something along the lines of this, I wouldn't spend £300 on a Cosmos.
 
Waste of money those Cosmos at that price, i have (am in the process of selling) a Stormtrooper which is the same as the Stryker, not a bad case but i wouldnt buy one again now with the other options available. Corsair 540 Air, Phanteks etc
 
A cosmos is not a waste of money that's like saying a corsair 900D is a waste of money. However he should really consider a cosmos midi still a large enough case. For take atx boards so should fit the one above.

Sorry, what you have just said is complete ****.

The Cosmos is a case that supports water cooling and is designed to enable airflow for multiple radiators. While not supporting as much as newer cases (like the 900D) it pioneered the side rad which is copied in many high end cases.

This guy may be having an air cooled rig, so why pay £300 for a case when you could fit it into a 750D which is nearly half it's price. The 540 is another great option and even cheaper.

Personally i think paying for the comos is a waste too (considering how little of it will be used for this rig)

But it is the builders choice at the end of the day.

I had a typo on a iphone I was suggesting that he should consider the midi version of the case. And to just say a comos is a waste of money without saying what you have above is just bad statement kinda like my mistyped one
