So there are going to be lots of really stylish homeless people in Feb? Or did I read it wrong? I like that they're trying to make giving a fashionable, interesting event, because if we face facts people are apathetic.

Sounds like a ridiculous idea spawned by those that have never struggled a day in their lives.

Lets make fashion!!...then give it to the poor folk who we'd spit at off camera.

If you want to give somebody something, you don't make a song and dance about it, you just do it. Reminds me of some idiot who posted in "the what have you bought" thread showing a receipt for donating money to charity. My stomach churned.

It's like they were trying to +1 the people who keep the high street/amazon in business (Cosimo)

It's not clothes that the homeless need, it's a kick up the rear and a healthy dose of education.

Pretty much every homeless person that I've met in the past are in that situation through their own life choices and through decisions which they made. They often just also accept it, and put up with it instead of trying to get themselves out of the situation. If the people tried, and stopped feeling sorry for themselves and actually sought and accepted the help that is out there then they would quickly be able to fix their self-given ills and actually become functional members of society. However, few will do this, and the cycle will continue.

Oh?

You converse with the homeless...respectable.

Do you happen to have experience in this matter, or do you preach from the ivory white tower like so many GD posters?

To be honest the homeless ive met majority were there by their own fault (self admitted) but I dont really agree with your latter statement about how easy it is to get off the street.

Imagine how depressing it is to be homeless not knowing when youll eat again. I imagine even if there was the help you suggest there is theyd struggle to take it for mental reasons.

I give clothes each year to charity shops and each winter buy standard hats/scarves/gloves(never money). If I could afford to do more I would. I really fail to see how this is newsworthy. I dont imagine many homeless people to be overly excited about being given designer clothes. Talk about making you feel even more crap "I'm here on the street yet some pleb thinks theyre making my life better by donating a £500 shirt they no longer want."

Why not just give the money to a charity.

I lived in a homeless person shelter for a while. So, yes. I do have experience in the matter.

I think it's a load of rubbish.

The cost of materials and labour to put this up? Staffing costs. Better spent elsewhere, directly with charities. Fashion designed second hand clothes for the homeless? What do they care? They want warm clothes not a new fashion line, at least I'd think they do. This is purely for the people involved, the designers, the shop owners, the high street. Someone is making a nice bit of coin off this I'd say as well.

This will no doubt be a huge success and loads of people will dump a load of clothes for the 'I'm doing something good' feels so I'm not so against that. But there is already loads of clothes banks in Manc and any major city for that matter.

My problem is this fashion spin on it. Genuinely want to see if these clothes are turned into crap that just aren't suited for someone on the street. Hope that is not the case though.

Arguing about whether or not the homeless should be on the street for X reason is not what I want this thread to descend into guys :p
