You'll be getting a nice performance upgrade, but id be tempted to try and sell them and cash in with the miners on a certain auction site. Though that phase may have passed, not sure.

Feel a bit of a dick ripping my family off though guys... Would hate to be related to some of after seeing some of these replies...

Tell him to sell them and get a gtx780/ti for himself then. You must know that they are faster and it's not worth it for him. The fact you are even asking here suggests you are thinking about it lol so leave the morals out.

oh is the other person a family member well , then explain to him about gpus and performance etc etc ... that it is not worth it .

Well inform him that his cards are worth more than your single card but if he truly wants you 1.3ghz card then he can have it. Ball is in his court then and if he wants it, he wants your card and its his decision if it makes you feel better.

And if he does take it then get a 780Ti with the money :)

Ha ha. I agree entirely.

Would I do it? Not as a permanent move but I would go down the profiteering route as long as it's not something you've coaxed him into. Single GPU for me personally. The 7970s will be about 40% faster on average than your 1300 780 assuming the 7970s clock fairly well but with no future upgrade path and they might not be worth much if you don't sell in the current price boom.

The price of coins has been rising rapidly this year so it's likely the price of the second hand cards will be get back to what they were at the peak in December. (£250-£300 7950's)

No way I'd do it tbh other than I don't use AMD stuff for main rigs, 1.3GHz 780 isn't far behind a pair of 7970s without any of the potential multi GPU considerations.
